    TD5 Injectors removed for inspection.

Hi Tom, The compressor housing wasn't scored what you can see are the tracks of oil/air mixture which I guess cannot stick to the housing where the velocity is high. The local turbo guy said the old turbo bearings had worn (77,000 miles) and were out of spec. Have checked the new turbo...

    TD5 Injectors removed for inspection.

Thanks for the response Tom, I have been chasing the cause of smoky-ness for a few weeks now. Originally I thought turbo oil seals were the cause as the intercooler hoses were wet inside. Having changed the turbo and flushed out the intercooler and pipe...

    TD5 Injectors removed for inspection.

Evening all, I have removed the injectors for inspection as part of my efforts to cure my smoky TD5 110. They are partly covered in crispy black ****e, and although I didn't expect them to come out gleaming I'm not sure if what I've got is normal or terminal. Anyone out there with...

110 2nd row middle seat belt!

Hi, I had the same problem in my 110. I bought an Exmoor trim 3 point seat belt for the middle seat. The problem is preventing the shoulder belt from sliding off your shoulder. I made a frame to prevent a load sliding into the back of the seats, and also a dog guard that can be slid up and...

TD5 smoking and stinking in traffic.

Cheers Shifty, Land Rover copper washers and O rings will be on order later today for yet another weekend of spanner fun. I'm planning to fit the new FPR and remove inspect/clean (carefully) and refit the injectors. Thanks all for the advice, I'll keep you posted...

TD5 smoking and stinking in traffic.

Hi, Not sure how to compression test No 5 cylinder, the other four through the glow plug holes? Had an hour of analysis at the local indie today. What a complete waste of £58 quid. After clearing stored faults and a road test they tell me my injectors need testing, and they can't do it...

TD5 smoking and stinking in traffic.

I have now officially run out of ideas on this, its still smoking more than the MOT man would find acceptable. Going to book it into the local independant next week for an hour of 'Test Book analysis'. I'll let you know the outcome. Cheers, Mike.

TD5 smoking and stinking in traffic.

Hi, Checked my now clean hoses and no sign of excess oil so my new turbo looks healthy. I have to say though the amount of smoke has reduced quite a bit. Still not back to normal but no longer at embarrasing levels. I am thinking maybe an injector playing up perhaps? I would like to look at...

TD5 smoking and stinking in traffic.

Hi, Yes, I thought it might be residual ****e some where in the system. Thrashed the **** out of it for half an hour on the motorway. Soon as I pull up and let the engine idle the smoke appears. Will check that the new turbo is not ****ing oil into the inlet tomorrow, after that...

TD5 smoking and stinking in traffic.

Well, after a big day of spannering just got back from the test drive:mad: Its no better, still smoking like a bastard. Checks completed whilst fitting new turbo were crank case pressurising-no oil return from turbo-clear and free to flow air...

TD5 smoking and stinking in traffic.

Thanks for the advice all, Found lots of oil in the inlet manifold when I finally got it off, will need to clean it out along with the intercooler and hoses before I fit my spanking new turbo tomorrow. Found a new Garrett GT20 for £400 inc vat at a turbo...

TD5 smoking and stinking in traffic.

Thanks for all the replies, finally got my arse in gear and checked the loom for oil....it is clean. Took a deep breath and I have now dropped the turbo off for a good coat of looking at. There is a lot of oil in the inlet side, I'll post some pics in a bit when I've tidied up and washed more...

TD5 smoking and stinking in traffic.

Hello, My 2003 TD5 Deepender is now smoking like a Bastard when idling and pulling away. Had a squint in the intercooler hoses and there is a thin coat of fresh oil and it is beginning to pool at low points. Having searched...I'm thinking turbo oil seals, and thinking just how close I am...

    TD5 Defender radiator filling.

Afternoon all, Just refitted the interior heater having had to replace the lower support bracket as it had rusted to nothing. Anyway thought I would change the coolant at the same time as its a year or two over due. Couldnt be arsed to remove the lower rad hose so just removed...

No Td5 side decals - Is this a damaged repaired??

Had my 03 110 from new. It had no TD5 stickers on the wing, I think it depends on whether the colour is customer specified, hence painted to order or not. Mike.

Need to replace keys and keyfob?

Cheers Ratty, Yes I am still driving my LandRover using the spare keys. Taking the battery out at night to avoid loosing my wagon to a visit from the crims. Changing the EKA code is to make the central locking/alarm ECU to ignore the original fobs? What about the key...

Need to replace keys and keyfob?

Ratty, So you say that all that is required is to reprogram the central locking/immobiliser to recognise the new key fobs and not the original ones? The bloke at the indie LR place was telling me that he would need to replace the central locking/immobiliser ECU as well as the locks...
