Autos have five gears [four gears and overdrive gear] and not four as most people think. It goes into fourth at about 28 mph unless you accelerate hard. When you hear the revs drop [you say it half locks up] that is the box going into fourth. You then hear the revs drop again that is the box...

The lower hole is the right hole , so drain it of to it. I overfilled years ago and my transfer oil seal went soon after. Use the 1 litre bottles [wilkinsons do it cheap] I found making a hole in the bottle bottom [to let air in],once it was inverted helped the oil come out quicker.

Try leaving the selector in 3rd instead of drive when driving around town and under 40mph. I do and with heavy trade double extension ladders on roof and back full of work gear I still get 25 mpg . ;)

I used 80/90 gl4 comma gear oil. They sell it in Wilkinsons for £3.28 for a litre bottle. I think it takes 7 litres to do transfer box, axle and swivel ball joints. If you do yours then get one of those little hand pumps[only about £1.50] it will make it much easier. I tried just sticking the...

A few weeks ago when the weather was cold I reckoned I was only getting about 18 mpg :eek: since then I have changed the transfer box and axle oils with comma mineral gear oil [hadn,t been done for a few years]. Now i reckon Im getting about 25 mpg , a big improvement ! Im sure some of it is...

thievin bastids ! they,ll nick anything . Lead flashings are being ripped of everywhere aswell. I only put 20 ltrs in at the pump and that costs about £28 so wouldn,t like to loose a full 90ltr tank :eek:
