Is anyone going near Ashcroft in Luton from Notts way?

Hi bump, thankyou for your offer but I can't guarantee they'd be clean enough :(

    Differing rpm @70

When I said 70mph, I meant true 70 (speedo reading 65) so, my transfer case has a lovely 1.2 sticker on it, I've checked. My question, put succinctly is : wtf? PS crazy, if you were replying to me, I appreciate your trying to be helpful but if you look it does say in my sig what I drive... oh...

    Disco 300tdi Brakes

I put a new master cylinder on mine and it took ages to bleed. I had air in the ABS pump and they way I bled that was just to drive it around and stand on the brakes to lock the wheels and activate the abs - that shook the bubbles free and after a re-bleed it was as hard as gary glitter at a...

A lorry wrote off my disco!

The above is true, if you are not at fault, the other party MUST put you back in the position you were in before the accident and if that means rebuilding your car completely they must do that.

Slow response from 3.9 v8 rover

What the eggspurts above said! Basically, don't assume. You're assuming it is correctly timed both on the ignition and the valves. How do you know the chain hasn't slipped or the pulley hasn't spun? If going too far advanced seems to make it run better then there's something wrong, so check and...

Is anyone going near Ashcroft in Luton from Notts way?

As per the title... I've got an auto box, a transfer box and a diff that need to go to ashcroft. If anyone could take them for me they would have my eternal thanks... and beer.

    Which Discovery

Basically apart from a few enlightened souls, we're gonna recommend whatever it is we drive... I have a v8 so guess what I'd recommend.... that's mostly personal bias. The TD5 is a great engine from what I've seen and 5 pots although not an 8 are still very interesting. If you do a lot of towing...

Slow response from 3.9 v8 rover

As mark says, timing. It sounds like retarded valve timing to me though. Have you had the engine apart?

    Disco v8 went bang!

AS said above - it may not be a blown MAF though, the earlier flap type would be destroyed by a backfire but mine (MAF) typically backfires 5 or so times a journey and the MAF is fine. It may well have split your induction pipe though and without that intact it will run really badly (if at all)...

Paintwork - Black or Green grille?

Yeah, I nearly wet myself with laughter! The bit where they were boiling the gimp in the pan was funny. I was right over to the left of you

Paintwork - Black or Green grille?

I'mwith Adam. Green looks more complete, just round the edge as in your pic though - full green would be OTT imo PS I saw Rammstein at download this year. They were awesome!

Putting vented discs/calipers on non vented axles

If I could afford a D4, I'd have one. As for getting the brakes checked, I am an IMI registered, qualified mechanic. Oh and I have an advanced driving licence too. Yes, from Rospa. Did I mention I worked for Ferrari? Keep trying to argue the case for intentionally fitting old tech brakes if...

Putting vented discs/calipers on non vented axles

Yeah, physics. Laws of, that kind of thing... You sir appear to be a keyboard warrior. In answer to your question, the rangie was designed many years before the defender, so as technology advanced, better brakes were developed and I for one consider it prudent to embrace that technology...

Putting vented discs/calipers on non vented axles

^ Quite. Braking is the action of converting kinetic energy into heat energy (or in the case of kers electricity as well) momentum = mass x velocity The momentum of a landrover at low speed will be equal to a much lighter car at higher speeds therefore it is every bit as necessary to cool the...
