    Brake upgrades?

Stu - This is the first I'd heard of the show. It's a bit far from me but it might make a nice weekend away. If I do go I'll come and have a look! I tend to use Apec brake parts on customer's cars - I'm impressed with them, well made and durable.

    Brake upgrades?

Stu - what are your impressions of the def 130 brakes vs standard ones?

    Brake upgrades?

Yes, sadly it's not such an easy fix as that :(

    Brake upgrades?

Hi Stu, thanks for that! That's the kind of info I was after :) I don't suppose you know how much bigger the diameter of the defender discs is vs the D1 discs?

There is that, however the brakes have never been very good and it's had a few different make pads in...

    Brake upgrades?

@ snowman so how fast do you go when you're winching? I haven't mentioned fade or high speed braking... What part of " I want to increase the clamping force" isn't clear? If I want to go fast I'll use my daily driver. I'm after help based on experience, nota keyboard warrior. Ta. PS...

    Brake upgrades?

I hadn't mentioned defender discs? I mentioned RRC discs as they're essentially the same car and I'm told that it's a fairly common modification. I actually think Ultimax are a better pad than the greenstuff. I guess another question I should have asked is "how bad are D1 brakes?" as compared...

    Brake upgrades?

I'm not getting brake fade.... Pads will do very little to increase the clamping ability when stationary...

    Brake upgrades?

I wouldn't touch greenstuff if my life depended on it. I have never experienced such an inconsistent, poorly made, fade prone, limited life pad in all the hundreds of pads I've tried. Generally all better pads do is more efficiently convert kinetic energy into heat energy. If anyone can...

    Brake upgrades?

I'm thinking how to upgrade the braking on my early 300 V8 (single hose per caliper, solid disc) The brakes are borderline at best. I've heard of the RRC having vented disc and I'm sure that IF they could be fitted then they would give better braking at speed due to the increased cooling...

    V8i non starter

Check the voltage at the pump. Mine had dropped to 8v at the pump. Gave all the symptoms of a pump on the way out but when I checked the resistance between the relayy and the pump it was at 7kohms! Ran a new wire from the inertia switch to the pump and it's good as new. Oh, also check your...

    High idle on 3.9 v8

It should idle at about 500 rpm with that pipe blocked. Is it auto or manual?

    Alternator pulley size affecting revs

hmm, it was attached to a V8. How do the diesels generate the tacho signal?

    Alternator pulley size affecting revs

I swapped my alternator ( it was attached to the engine I was swapping) a while back on my serpentine 3.9. The new alternator has a significantly smaller pulley. I'm convinced this is giving an artificially high rpm readout on the rev counter... Why are there 2 sizes of alternator pulley? Am I...

    Help needed! Autobox broken. again.

The new gearbox is leaking. Bugger. It appears to be leaking from the really big vertical bolt at the back of the box -it looks like it has a rubber gasket. What does this bolt hold in place? Is this a common place for the LT-77 to leak from?

It is not possible to bleed the clutch

I've bled clutches on everything from Ferraris to Fiats, I regularly bleed MX-5 clutches which have a similar arrangement (with a longer routing, and they can be an arse) but I've never come across anything as difficult as a Disco to bleed. I found a mityvac on the bleed nipple and about an hour...
