This is a Range Rover. Sadly.

I'm not going to buy one, but one of my colleagues has one - swapped an Alfa for it. Sister-in-law might also switch company car from Audi next time around. It'll be 2WD because of the mileage she does, but ... That's two buyers bringing money to the company who wouldn't have looked at a...

    dvla vin number change?

Engine mods are a big no-no in France which is why you're having trouble. Even though it's a LR engine, possibly destined for the same type of vehicle as it's in (i.e. you've not dropped a TD5 into a TD chassis), it's not what was originally shipped so you have to go through all the hoops to be...

    Guilty music pleasures.

No need to feel guilty. Listening to <insert unfashionable tune here> isn't hurting anyone. And "Oh, the kids must have left that in the CD player" covers a multitude of sins :o Have to confess, a man my age should not be enjoying the Glee soundtracks but I do.

What have you done to your Landie today.

Took it to see the friendly local welder. Much head shaking, muttering about plates and questions like "Who does that to a car ?" Good news: she's getting fixed for Christmas :)

    is this a joke :/

I'm guessing the vendor doesn't work in sales. I'm also guessing that they didn't think the whole "Land Rover" thing through before buying, although the item's now sold, so that's something.

What have you done to your Landie today.

Pulled the interior trim out of the back of the Disco to get to the rust and snapped a seatbelt bolt in the process. Stripped the still-sodden soundproofing out from under the carpets.

Carrying spare parts in your Landy

Wheel-change kit, jump leads, rope, oils, water, couple of useful tools, torch, glow sticks, towel (always know where your towel is, especially if your Land Rover leaks :(), night-out gear and an RAC* card. More if I'm away for the weekend. Plus winter kit (shovel, brush, thermos, blanket...

    Rear Door Check Strap Bolt

Thanks Dippypud. Guess I'd better start spraying things with WD40 this weekend so I can get at it in January and in the meantime, I'll drop a bolt through.

What have you done to your Landie today.

Fitted a new battery and heard it start for the first time in 2 weeks :) Noticed how damp the headlining is and the pool of water on top of the load cover :(

    Rear Door Check Strap Bolt

Well, thanks to Discool's response to another thread (which wasn't there when I searched!) I have the part number for the circlip. From that, Google led me on to find the part number for the pin but I'm still at a loss on the MOT front and as to procedure because I can't see how to gain access...

How many miles does your do a year??

Most likely scenario: vehicle sustains damage, you claim on the insurance, the insurance company checks its MOT history. Mine's only used occasionally (trips too long to cycle) so the mileage is quite low but the allowance is quite high because the discount for dropping it below 10k was peanuts.

    D'oh

They don't have to rust for that to happen. Mine just lost its clip and fell out!

    Insa tyres

I had the Sahara (MT) pattern on a Hilux and they were exceptional in the mud. Didn't do enough mileage to test them for wear but they did push the fuel consumption up (probably the pattern) noticeably. Less grip than BFG ATs on dry tarmac but better than the teflon tyres it came off the boat...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Took the sill panels off to see how metal was left (answer: I've seen worse but they still need welding). Disco retaliated by killing the battery. (It was on borrowed time anyway, that battery).

    Rear Door Check Strap Bolt

The stud / bolt / lug holding the tailgate check strap to the body has gone. Disappeared. Lost. Presumably, it fell out sometime after the circlip on the top went 'ping' out into some traffic. I can't find it (never found the circlip) so the rear door now opens out well past 90 degrees...

    Getting Hot Under Load

Check coolant level. Check oil level  Check the tightness of the serpentine belt (what drives the water pump). Try turning the fan with the engine stopped (and the keys OUT of the ignition !) - it shouldn't spin freely. If it does, the VC's dead. (Of course, it may die in the locked-up...

Why Land Rover freelander is cheaper than Range Rover ?

Ask yourself why you want a LR in the first place (they're great motors, but not everyone wants one) then visit a couple advertised near you to see what they're like from the inside. In essence, the Freelander is a raised-ground-clearance car with bad-weather capability. Crudely speaking, it's...

    8 former keepers?

Mine's had 5 POs, last owner 3.5 years, rear floor welded, recent cambelt. Floor welding isn't good enough, arches are shot and there was no paperwork for the cambelt so it's in the garage as I type. Long ownership and fewer owners doesn't necessarily get you a problem-free car but Discos...
