Land Rover Series 3 Service Guide

The service guide was useful. I do most of those things, but it's a good reminder of what I keep putting off! Thanks for posting.

    Uneven tick over

Hi there I had a very annoying and peristent misfire in my 2.25 petrol. I can share with you what was done to solve it. I checked everything I could but in the end I took it to a Land Rover specialist to have a look (Howe Engineering in Hertfordshire)...He set the timing using a strobe (which...

    Sourcing canvas

Undercover covers. Good quality, recommended by many (including me - I bought a hood for my SWB last year). The website is pretty useless, but they are very helpful if you call them.

    Timing marks

There's a nick on the engine side of the pulley. I have a 1974 Series 3, and it has three or four different fixed pointers. You only have one pointer? It was difficult to see the nick, and I can't see it without a powerful workshop light. I set the static timing to what I thought was 6 degrees...

Series 3 Clutch Master Leak from New

Sounds like you may have...I assume you’ve checked all seals/connections to make sure the cylinder has been properly installed. I installed the same cylinder last year and I thought that it seemed fairly well put together.

What have you done to your Landie today.

I applied a couple of coats of POR-15 to the rear crossmember of my Series 3. Pretty straightforward, although a lot of steps and drying time. Hopefully the masking tape will come of ok!

Misfire sorted in 2.25 petrol Series 3

Thought I’d share a positive end to an annoying misfire that my 1974 S3 has been suffering from for probably a year or more... I had focussed on the distributor, as this seemed the most likely culprit. Checked and set points gap (many times), put in a new condenser, checked and set static...

    Gearbox oil changes

I checked the oil in the overdrive, main and transfer boxes today (the things you do on a day off from work!). Overdrive and main just needed a top up, but the transfer box, though ‘full’ was so black I decided to do a full change. No real dramas to report, now I’ve realised the best way to...

    Too tall

Hi there I am six foot four and drive a Series 3 with de luxe seats. I removed the sun visors and now I have no problem with seeing through the windscreen. I assume you've done this? Otherwise, I guess you'll need a thinner seat base. Good luck.

Inner tube tyre service near Cambridge?

Yes, it is a slightly odd place. They couldn't find the new inner tube they said they had, but fitted a second hand one that they could find. It seemed robust enough. Time will tell!

    George's 1964 Series 2a Station Wagon restoration.

Hey, good luck. It looks like you’ve got a good basis for a great series 2 (though I haven’t seen the chassis!). Look forward to following progress.

1984 SIII Rebuild - with lots of pictures.

Anyone know why I cannot see any of the photos in this thread? All I can see are icons with a red cross?

Inner tube tyre service near Cambridge?

Well, I went to T and J tyres in Shelford, and they replaced the inner tube. I've kept the old one, thinking I could repair it and keep it as a spare. The guy at the tyre place said this would be fine. Is this a good idea?

Inner tube tyre service near Cambridge?

Thanks for all the replies. The tyre place I’m going to says that they have the “fat valve” inner tube which seems to match what I have. I will find out tomorrow!

Inner tube tyre service near Cambridge?

Well, I’m not exactly sure where it happened. I had driven along a rutted byway for a while, was then driving along the road and could smell burning....took me a while to realise that the rear tyre was flat.
