anti roll bar on a series

I've never found body-roll to be a big issue on SWB's but on LWB's especially when loaded caught me out a few times when I was younger. Nice idea but would it not ruin off road articulation? D

Leaf spring bushes - what is the latest best option?

Re engine mounts: The solid ones, on idle the car shakes like a ****ting dog, the properly soft ones it's all nice until the rubber peels off the metal then the engine's trying to climb out from under the bonnet! A lot of people think that series should be rattly (which is partly true) but the...

Leaf spring bushes - what is the latest best option?

If the rubber itself is failing it maybe is that they've used the wrong formulation of rubber, not vulcanised or cured it properly. I've been through all manner of different combinations of engine mounts. Some of the new ones are made of stuff so tough as to be like bolting the engine straight...

Leaf spring bushes - what is the latest best option?

I don;t know about the durability of polybushes - I rechassied mine before they had been in a year. The failure mode of most of the metalastic bushes I've had seems to be rust starting between the outer cylinder and rubber causing the rubber to de-bond from the cylinder. I suspect this is due to...

    Confusing oil level S3

That's the oil splashing round in the engine. Always take dip stick out, wipe. Reinsert, inspect

    Series 3 Insurance...thought I'd seen it all...

Mine was cheaper with business miles on it and cheaper still with modifications...no rhyme or reason to it!

    Series 3 short u-bolts

Does anyone know the right part number to search for. I'm after some short U-bolts for my rear axle. It has gb-springs parabolics and I'm trying it with two leaves (helper removed). I found one pair that will work in my random pile of bits that have a longer thread but they will need about 1"...

    Headlights not happening

Headlights are directional - they illuminate upwards on the passenger side but not the drivers side to avoid dazzling people coming the other way. If you're in NZ I suspect you could go to any motor factors/garage/scrappers and try asking for a Lucas 7" sealed beam. Many British cars of the...

    Preparing chassis question

Richards chassis recommended mordant wash, then etch primer, then Jotun Conceal - it's an expensive chassis black and goes on quite well. I suspect I should have thinned it and done serveral layers instead of one two too thick layers...

    Series 3 Suck or blow?

Sorry lads, turns out I am an idiot .... I'd still got the PCV pipe to the carb attached - what a knob! Still having idle issues so looks like a full carb strip down / new manifold gaskets are in order.

    Series 3 Suck or blow?

Thanks lads, it has got hardened valves and seats so it shouldn't be that. I think I'll whip the rocker box off and see if I can see where it's sucking from. The tappets all sound ok and it's not running lumpy. All I can think of is a piston ring but then I'd expect it to be blowing...

Series 3 Should the temperature gauge usually move much when driving?

It might be worth checking the water pump is spinning up nicely and that the fan belt isn't slipping?

    Series 3 Suck or blow?

I had some idle problems on my s3 petrol recently after a brisk 200 miles on the motorway. I've just cleaned the idle jets and that seems to have more or less sorted it but I noticed something else. The engine breather used to very gently blow (if you put a thumb over the outlet on the Dalek...

Series 3 Checking oil flow to head - 2 1/4 Diesel

Take the rocker cover off and start her up, the oil shouldn't go everywhere unless you rev it. It's worth checking that it's coming out of all the rockers...

Series 3 Why a third brake spring?

I had a friend help me first time I did the brakes on my Landy and he insisted that we fit what he insisted were "all the springs" - because there are holes for them and he'd assumed that some lazy bugger had omitted them in the past. Someone may also have fitted them if the (232074) distance...

    109 Station wagon Sill + B / C post Replacement

Cheers, sounds like it might be easier than the YRM route which sounds like it involves a lot of trial and error to get the top not-rotten part welded to the bottom galved part....

Broke Bertie :( klunk then the propshaft and wheels stopped turning.

No, probably what Blackburn said . Just take the drive shafts out. You don't even need to jack it up. Just carefully chock the front wheels and undo the six axle bolts on each side and slide out the drive shafts, or the broken end!

    32/34 jetting

Mines on a 2.5 dmtl. I think I went one size smaller on the second idle jet but that was a tiny tweak that didn't make much difference. I can double check the jets next week if you like. I am running a skimmed head and acr cam but it ran the same on a stock cam
