    Next stupid question....

How would I tell if it's a disco gearbox? I've only had the 110 a little while, I'd be surprised if it's not an R380 as that's what the VIN says it should be. I'll do some searches and see how to identify it for sure, you've got my curious. - Andrew

    Axel upgrades?

Great! Thanks guys.... now need to go and read up on those.... :) At first I thought it was a 10-24 spline upgrade or something, but then read that mine should have had 24 standard... so I got confused. All my searches on "half shaft upgrades" and "axel upgrades" didn't shed light on it...

    Next stupid question....

I went under my 110 this afternoon to replace the steering damper, and froze when I saw this.... Being new, I got really worried, did some searches, and then figured out it was the wading plug and so it's not that I've been driving with an dry gearbox.... that was a relief. My question...

The Big Debate - Britpart or S**tpart?

I just checked the poll results, it's interesting to see that the "utter crap" voters tend to be red or green... but no red or green votes anywhere else. I'm new to landy's, but this is telling me: "stay away!"... good to know. :) - Andrew

    new build registraton

I always wondered what the legal situation would be for that... what if you build a land rover with no official land rover parts? If so, I think it's not an official land rover and you'd be in the same situation as somebody that build a car totally from scratch with their own design (just a...

What have you done to your Landie today.

Finally got a garage where I could work on the beast, went under to replace steering damper a little too late (getting dark) and found I needed a pipe wrench to hold it as the whole thing was turning with the chasis mount nut... will finish tonight after purchasing pipe wrench...

    Horn button - random question

On my LHD defender 110 it's on the left side of the steering wheel, you push in the turn indicator. No idea about other models, or RHD vehicles like in the UK. - Andrew

Parts/Workshop DVD not working in Win7

Yeah, same behaviour I had. I read it doesn't work on Vista, but even on XP is was a royal pain I found... can't just open the pdf I want... need to wait for their screens to load and fade in and all that ****. - Andrew

Parts/Workshop DVD not working in Win7

I had the same issue, no joy. Found a seller on ebay selling the manuals that included my year (the free ones I found online were a few years older than my 110 and I was worried something could have changed) and it seems good. I'll pm you details. - Andrew

New and after advice for a trip.

Just remember, often things cost what they do for a reason. I specifically bought a landy because you can get parts in Africa and I read that they are (relatively) easy to learn and work on. These were very important for me, you need to come to your own conclusions of course. The other...

    Belgium->Calais->Dover->York and back

Heading to the Bush Mechanics course on May 22nd. I'll be driving from Brugge via the Calais->Dover ferry then up to York on Friday the 21st, might be trying to find some green-laning (never done it before!) on the 23rd, and then back on the 24th. Since I'm not sure what I'm up to on the...

Info on buying parts for 110

You can find part catalogs on the net if you seach, they have good diagrams etc as well... quite useful. Sorry, don't have links with me here at work, but I'm sure they'll follow. - Andrew

    Africa 2012

Hi all, The reason I bought a landy (and so joined this fine site) is because I'm heading down to Africa for a year or so starting around november 2011. I'm still looking for a travel buddy, and would also be interesting in hearing about anybody heading down during the same time...

New and after advice for a trip.

Hey Tony, Don't know if it's worth anything, but I'm planning a similar trip... 12+ months through Africa starting nov 2011. In the end I decided to buy a Defender 110 for the trip both because of the availability of parts, but also because I thought I'd enjoy learning to repair it and doing...
