Disco I - ABS light on

Apologies for a vague sounding question, but my Dads 300TDi disco has just developed a fault with the ABS. Well that is to say, the light isn't going out. My only experience with other systems has been failed wheel sensors. It started coming on intermittently a few weeks back, now is on all the...

    Your thoughts

I've got a 2001 Td5 and general running its doing about 26/27 mpg. I'd say its a bit thirstier than a Tdi. I think it runs very rough at between 3000 and 3500 revs so make sure the car you intend to buy runs smoothly. As for faults, I've replaced the injector harness, which was causing a...

Rust in A and BC posts

The holes need to be clear or the A post fills with water. The same happens if they get blocked, which happens quite easily as the holes are a bit small. Like the other poster says, best to get an idea of the overall condition before you dive in. Whats the inner sills, boot floor and rear cross...

    bigger tyres

You might need to adjust the steering lock stops as well, or fit wheel spacers.

    Ear Ache

I've had both of these go on my old 200Tdi Disco. To get the glass out you have to take the door window frame top off, there is no other way. The first stage in doing this is to remove the window lifter mechanism, as it needs to be out when you slide the replacement glass back in. I had two...

    200 TDi, fuel starvation?

I had the engine out of my 200Tdi, when I refitted it had a very similar problem, the engine died as soon as you tried to rev it. In the end it was the fuel lift pump knackered, which really threw me cos it had been working perfectly prior to having the engine out. I guess it must have failed...

    TD5, harsh at around 3000rpm

I meant from a refinement point of view, not to work on. Not so sure about your street cred when your stuck in a deep ford cos yer ECU got full of water ;-)

    TD5, harsh at around 3000rpm

The TD5 is quite a complex vehicle really, (some of it unnecesarry IMHO) When I was doing these mounts I thought it was a bit of a pig to work on too, also I didn't like the look of all the slowly rusting hydraulic pipes everywhere. I can see one of these cars being a bit of a money pit, when...

    TD5, harsh at around 3000rpm

Fitted new engine mountings at the weekend, genuine landrover parts. It has improved the car but its still not wonderful, on the motorway. God knows what that particular engine would be like in a Defender. So maybe its shagged, or maybe its just an example of Rovers "lucky dip" quality.

    TD5, harsh at around 3000rpm

Just crawled under the car. Drivers side engine mount is completely collapsed (rubber touching small hole at bottom), passenger side has clearance, but well less than the 10mm++ which would be correct. So I might be onto something, thanks very much for the info. A friend of mine was a...

    TD5, harsh at around 3000rpm

Thats very interesting. On my car the roughness does get better and worse, according to engine speed. 3200 rpm is the worst, although I don't really use that fast a speed, in top gear. There's a patch around 2600-2700 which conincides with about 65-70 mph. Around 2900 is about the best, which is...

How to change a 200tdi Discovery cambelt..?

The Haynes manual describes a perfectly adequate procedure for changing the belt on this engine. If you don't want to buy one pm me and I'll copy the relevant pages from mine. You need a drill bit to time up the injection pump, either 9 or 9.5mm. To time up the crank, you can make a timing pin...

    Td5 oil filter change

I too found there was insufficient clearance between filter and manifold for my trusty chain wrench, so I ended up tapping the filter loose, using a hammer hammer and big screwdriver, on the filters bottom edge. I saw no mileage in hammering the screwy right thro, as it looked like it wouldn't...

    TD5 engine swap questions

Thats not right, the timing is all worked out by the ECU, which calculates the injection point from the missing teeth in the crankshaft toothed wheel. The injector code has to do with the actual fuel flow rate from the injector. Due to production tolerances, this varies from injector to...

    TD5, harsh at around 3000rpm

Did a bit more digging, local Landy place didn't think there was anything much wrong per se. Rear propshaft needs a new donut joint, which is causing a bit of vibration at motorway speed. This doesn't alter the fact that I bought a Td5 in the expectation it would be a lot more refined on the...

    TD5, harsh at around 3000rpm

I didn't explain myself properly. The only thing in the whole front section, which isn't plain pipe, is the flexi joint. No cats, no nothing. But won't an early one like this (2001) be non cat? I thought they were only fitted later on, to meet tougher emissions standards. Saying that, an...

    TD5, harsh at around 3000rpm

Thanks for the reply, however this one does not appear to have a cat fitted, all I can see in the downpipe is a flexi-joint, and thats it. However, been doing some more digging. You can feel said vibration through the clutch pedal. Looking thro the service history its had a "2nd hand" dual mass...

veg oil in a 200 tdi

For summer use they will run on a mix of veg oil and diesel just fine. However, in the longer term, you can damage the seals in your injection pump. Plus the veggy oil does tend to gum up. If the pump is known to have been rebuilt, using viton seals then you should be ok as the viton is far...

    TD5, harsh at around 3000rpm

I recently bought a 2001 TD5 disco. The car drives very nicely, in particular, the bottom end torque is fantastic. However, I'm suprised how harsh the engine is once the revs get to around 2600rpm and above. The worst is around 3000, at which speed it does sound quite objectionable. It seems to...

Valeo 2 button keyfob, 2001 Disco

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I was having a blonde moment, and got thrown by this superlocking feature, as you say I was trying a non drivers door. It had been a long one, yesterday .... GRATCH, Ejector seat could be handy, depending where I end up with the car .. . :-D :-D
