    Hood Sticks and Stuff

Hi Innzy, my truck cab will be coming off soon, I use a bikini hood with no door tops, so all I have to fit is the "sharks tooth rail" on the top of the windscreen and the hoop behind the seats.

I left the rim smooth, using the crinkle stuff on the centre and fading out along the spokes, very pleased with the results.

You have done a brilliant job Sam. When you repaint the steering wheel, you could try Halfords "crinkle finish" spray. It gives a great retro look.

    Bikini hood sticks question

I have chopped a couple of inches off the bottom of the legs of my hoop to lower the canvas a bit and remove the door tops for the summer.(truck cab in winter). It's the best way to keep cool in the summer!

66 seat and belts to be or not to be

The seatbelt law came in mid seventies, so a car built in 1966 would not need belts fitted. But if belts have been retro fitted they must be worn. So if you don't want to use belts remove them, this will keep you the right side of the law.

How hard to hand crank a 2 1/4 petrol

Could it be because there is no oil on the bores where it has not been run? Could try taking the plugs out, sqirting some oil down the plug holes and turning over without the plugs in. Then put the plugs back and try again.

    Series disc brake conversion

Yes I do, I like the standard look, and I have some tubeless defender steel wheels for my next set of tyres.

    Series disc brake conversion

Very interesting post. I have been planing a disc brake conversion for my series 3 for a while. Do you know if your conversion will allow the fitting of standard wheels? Great post, keep it up.

    Engine shake

As Aidso said, plug or HT lead to one cylinder or perhaps problem with points or distributor moving.

Or look out for a late defender steel rim (2006 onwards, I think) that is tubeless.

    Centre seat belt

You can fit a three point fixing seatbelt but because there is nowhere for the top mount you would have to adapt a centre rear seatbelt from another car which mounts on the rear of the seat (I used one from a Mk2 mondeo). It will mean making brackets/mounts to suit. It's not straight forward but...
