ACR do a bored out 2.5 block with fancy bits on, not sure if Santana did a 2.8 petrol. I think they did a 2.8 diesel at one point....or did you mean 2.5?

Well give us a blurdy clue then. I know the 300tdi was modified in Brazil to a 2.8 and 3.0 but they are obviously doozals.

Is it a modified 17H or what?

Didn't they have land rovers with bigger petrol engines in South Africa? Seem to remember reading that LR South Africa put them in

It's possible, they certainly did with the diesels in Brazil but I can't find anything specific about larger petrols

Yes

In south africa the 110 could be had with the BMW 2.8 straight 6, although extensively adapted and simplified(no fly-by-wire throttle, for example).

Not sure if it was available in the 90 but I don't ever remember seeing one.

The other engine option was the 300 TDi and then TD5.

In 2006 when the 2.4 became standard across the range.

They are sent out there in kit form and then painted an assembled locally to avoid the massive 42% import duty levied on completed cars - clever - provides local jobs!

I have driven a SA 2.8 90, a guy in Melton used to bring one in for servicing. Never heard of a 2.8 4cyl petrol though except the ACR mod/upgrade job.
