    Head Gasket symptoms!?

All clear... as JM suggested... garage has now confirmed, no major worries... suggested I give the engine a steam clean, and monitor the oil leaks. Phew... thought I might have been up for a big bill there.

    Cylinder head

Hi Shifty... sorry for my delayed response... Thanks for the info... must say I am tempted to lift the head and replace the dowels for piece of mind... and have a go at the oil pump bold while the engine is drained down. It's in the garage at the moment... having a second opinion!!... still...

    Head Gasket symptoms!?

Have I added a bit of confusion... the oil seems to be coming from the seam below the inlet manifold, not the manifold itself... hence my head gasket concerns:confused:

    Head Gasket symptoms!?

OK I will check the coolant system as suggested... maybe I am over reacting...so head gasket failure is more gradual.

    Head Gasket symptoms!?

It's not using much oil... 250ml/1000miles? Coolant cap was tight, so confused why there would be leakage there?... did notice the heater was a bit cooler than normal, but that could just have been the recent weather! There's a definite oil tide line below the inlet manifold/ head gasket...

Easier to swap for a roof with those symptoms/features... they are prone to leak! Might help if you are a bit more descriptive in your title IMHO

    Head Gasket symptoms!?

Whilst under the car replacing a leaking diff seal I noticed the starter motor was very 'damp'... and drips on the air intake hose... I had replaced the fuel pressure regulator about 1000 miles ago, and that was clean as a bell... further investigation: Oil seems to be coming from below the...

    Cylinder head

Advice/reassurance required - is my head or head gasket on the way out? Three months ago I got the soggy starter motor... so changed the FPR, genuine part, new gasket, but old O ring on the pencil filter...all fine for about 1000 miles... soggy starter motor again... refitted with new gasket...

    td5 common problems

Regular servicing seems to be key, so go for the one with the best service history. 15p engines were later than the 10p units so would have ironed out alot of the problems. Generally seem to be a strong motor with heaps of potential. A stage 1 tune helped me to iron out the flat spot on low...

Much to do! Advice on many things required!

I did my own Fuel Pressure Regulator, and found this useful: TD5 Disco fuel pressure regulator - Land Rover Technical Archive - LR4x4 - The Land Rover Forum Ratchet spanner and torque wrench were to most advanced tools needed... ET length fingers would have been useful... I bought Genuine Part...

    Ashcrofts

I can recommend Ashcrofts... used their fitting service too...well impressed, only needed to take the motor off the road for a day - recon box, and did the clutch/DMF while they had it all open. Still paying off the 0% credit card bill... worth it though!

    TD5 Defender 90 top speed

I went down the 1.22 ratio (Disco) transfer box... currently on 235/85's but run 265/75's in winter... cruising at 60 is now much more comfortable, and average about 33mpg TD5 is gutless when starting off/low revs, so a re-map helped significantly with this... Would have preferred an...

replacing static seats with suspension seats!

I brought a (Grammer?)unit from a bloke who had it fitted to his Disco... uses existing seat. I wanted to fit it to my Defender, for the same reason - back ache!... but there was no way you could reach the pedals, and the steering wheel would be too low... not to mention having your head...
