110 Defender TD5 stuttered in the rain

Just check the ECU isn't getting wet... mine totally died, and after much money left my account I had a new ECU, due to water ingress... they didn't solve the cause - the seal around the centre seat inspection panel was rotten and water was getting into the ECU compartment, and that was from...

MAF Sensors - does this look right?

Searching around for the cause of my limited performance, and suspected the MAF... so had a look and... should there be two sensor wires in this picture? I managed to snap off the guard, hence my ability to get a slip of paper behind the sensor for clarity! Note that this is also a cheap...

    TD5 Steering pump modification

It's been a while since I fiddled with my P/S pump... if you remove the pipe, by releasing the flange with two bolts... is there enough meat in the housing to tap threads into?... if so, you could get a local Ag engineer to crimp fit to the end of your hose a fitting that could screw directly...

    Sludge coming from intercooler!?

Thanks... I washed it out over a year ago, and was quite surprised to see evidence of this still in the system, and that it hadn't passed through the engine.

    wastegate rod

Just out of interest... reviving an old thread here.... why does the wastegate stick, what is building up in there to gum it up? As mine stands for a week or two between uses it tends to have picked up the sticky bug... and for 'walletary' reasons I tend to be light on the right foot.

    Sludge coming from intercooler!?

Yes warm water with degreaser... several flushes... then several flushes with plain water... followed by 15 mins on the blow side of the vacuum cleaner.

    Sludge coming from intercooler!?

I managed to get an abused performance intercooler of the Bay, had it repaired, and got around to fitting it last weekend. Found this sludge on the outlet side on the intercooler... inlet side was just a bit of oil - as usual. I had flushed it out over a year ago - could it be a bit of moisture...

    Wanted 90 Steering Wheel

Hey wombat, you still looking for a steering wheel?.... I have an early TD5 48 spline in the garage, might be a bit furry, but should clean up!?... I'm going to Malvern tomorrow if you want to pick it up there... mid morning if poss?

    Malvern Show this weekend

Anyone going? Hopefully it will be a bit bigger this year... I will go for a look as it is just down the road for me... and sure I will spot something else I didn't know I needed:)

    Diesel Fuel Additives/Cleaners

I've tried 2 stroke oil, but now use Millers... when I remember... definitely makes a difference IMHO

    mantec window guards

I got the fear about how easy it is to push in the rear windows and open the rear door, so before we head over to France I chanced a set of rear window guards on Ebay and fitted them this weekend... not sure what make they are but they were easy to fit, and after a quick paint job looked quite...

    Lead Blankets!! ??

I need to update here too. I finally got around to buying a lead blanket from Noisekiller, and fitted it this weekend... went for a trundle and can definitely hear an improvement. I could hear the fan on its lowest setting, and even the swish of the tyres on the road with the window open... not...

Prop Shaft UJ lubrication - some questions :)

I found it hard to get my grease gun on to the front UJ nearest the gearbox, so brought a needle attachment for the grease gun... so much easier now, you have to get square on with a bit of pressure to keep a seal as the needle locates into the 'eye' of the grease nipple, and you pump in grease...

    Rocker box gasket

I found warming the gasket in a sink of hot water helped. ... also paid a bit more attention to locating the bolts, as I think previously I had not got them through the holes in the gasket, so when torqued up the seal wasn't fully achieved = oily engine!

    Diff Guard concerns

Thanks for the reassurance... rather glad I don't need to hack away at my shiny new bits. I will see if I can coax the brake line away, as it is quite a sharp edge... I think it may have already seen a bit of action, as it doesn't sit in its clips like it should!

    Diff Guard concerns

I have just fitted a pair of diff guards, of the skid plate/wrap around type, and am a little concerned with the rear one: 1. Brake line actually touches the top plate - should I sheath the brake line with something similar to the breather pipe/pvc pipe? 2. When looking back under the vehicle...

    Wind Deflectors

Thanks for the piccies.... I see what you mean about being flush... and they are very dark. I'm not too confident in stick on things, so may save a bit longer for some Clim Air's.

    Wind Deflectors

Ah ha... hmmm... bit of a chocolate teapot hey!... may be worth a bit more for the Climair's?.... do post a piccie if you can, as it will be good to see how they fit. I see Terrafirma ones available - anyone tried them?

    Wind Deflectors

OK so how are the Heko's performing... were they easy to fit... any chance of a picture?
