    Snow tyres

Where we live we are in the snow line for two or three months of the year. On my car I have Good Year four seasons tyres which work quiet well. On my wifes car we have Michelin Alpine winter tyres which are great, I would say a little better than the Good Year Four seasons. My son runs Michelin...

Disco 2 What to do about wheels and tyres seeking the knowledge of the collective

I prefer to keep things as standard as possible. Although I have 16" Steel modular wheels on my 110 with AT2's. The At2's perform quiet well in the snow. Some snow tires work better than others. A good snow tire would out perform a M&S tire in the snow. We are in the snow line for around three...

No MOT from May 20 2018

I was worried they would force them off the road by claiming they don't meet immission control standards, but here in France they will be exempt.

No MOT from May 20 2018

Here in France its after 30 years, then you only have to have it MOT'd every five years. I have to wait another three years, mine is a 1990. standard 200tdi 110.

    Fuel consumption

My 200 tdi does around 28 mpg normal driving. 70 mph on motorways. On a trip across Morocco driving through the Sahara I was expecting to do much less but I was getting between 32 to 35 mpg. We were driving in a group and going much slower through the sand. Its a standard basic 1990, 200 tdi. 110.

    Chassis and engine advice

A friend of mine blew his engine with a K&N filter on a 300 tdi on his way back from a Morocco trip. Apparently the K&N filters are not very efficient at filtering out dust which caused the problem. I am a believer in leaving things standard as much as possible. That's how they were designed and...

    110 Project!

I personally wouldn't go the TD5 route. A 200 tdi is much easier to fit and get on with. And the 200tdi just seems to keep rolling along with very little maintenance required. I wouldn't change my 200 tdi.

New French M.O.T controls Control Technic

Nope, I stripped the heater box, cleaned it out, checked vents/flaps and cables worked correctly. Then resealed it with pop rivets. Made no difference what so ever. I had posted several threads on here a long time ago. I was told the 200 tdi's are cool running engines. I also tried blocking the...

New French M.O.T controls Control Technic

New seals were fitted a while back and new door seals. Heaters are OK'ish when its down to around 3 or 4 degrees, but as soon as it goes down to zero its like a fart in the wind. I have fitted a 300 wat electric heater which helps and bought myself a new coat and gloves.

New French M.O.T controls Control Technic

You must be one of a few. My heaters are useless. Changed rad, heater matrix, several thermostats, fitted an electric Kenow fan, went back to a viscos fan, flushed it out and still the heaters are useless. Don't know how many times I have been underneath to fix oil leaks, seems to be fine for a...

New French M.O.T controls Control Technic

Apparently from May next year new Controls come into force for the French M.O.T. Oil leaks will be a failure for the Control Technic. Guess there will be a few less Defenders on the road over here. Any one know if these stop oil leak fluids are any good?

Any computer wizards on here? Ken a Morocco veteran has some maps but can't get them to me. See email ( Hi Mike, Have tracks for Morocco now on google earth pro - and just wondered if you knew how I can send them to you. I know it can be done but don't know how to do it. Presumably you have...

    TD5 Viscous fan unit

Can't speak for a td5 but loads of guys drive there TDI 200 - 300's without fans in the UK. I drove my 200 here in France in temperatures of 35c without any problems. If you are going to tow stuff you might well need a fan thought or if you are going to do a trip across Morocco.
