Dunno if this is any use. Electrics aren't my strongpoint. I do know that on the RX8 all the seat controls work with the ignition off and off the top of my head there are only two wires on the seat plug that are used positive and earth but I'll check that tomorrow if this doesn't get resolved...

TD5 has an extra cylinder and loads more electronics to go wrong :) A TDI will probably need more care but is easier to work on yourself.
