    P38 Work in progress

Welcome to the club, i'm a newbie to P38's as well and also have my hands full trying to get it ship shape and reliable???? It looks in good shape externally for a 95. I'm not usually a lover of the front end conversion but it looks good on yours, maybe the colour helps carry it off? Anyway...

2.5TD 19j - Smokes on start up - fine after...

Mine did the same when i bought it, cloud of black smoke from cold start. Try switching ignition on 2 or 3 times till glow plug light goes out then start it, if it doesn't smoke the glow plugs need changing. Changed mine 3 weeks ago and no smoke on start up.

    Odd electrical gremlins

Have you had a meter on the new battery to establish it is flat or are you going on the fact it wont turn the starter over? I still suspect dodgy earth connection or duff terminal, As i said earlier a battery cant be flat then 2 minutes later start the car. Check the earth strap from the...

    Odd electrical gremlins

Yeah i was going to say it's not possible for a battery to be dead then 2 minutes later start the car. You have a duff connection somewhere, probably a poor earth connection to the chassis or possibly a duff battery terminal.

    Dimsport rapid tuning box

Or maybe just a very light foot! i keep below 3000rpm and try to drive as effieciently as possible, looking ahead and regulating my speed to avoid unneccassary braking or acceleration and luckily have a clear run at 6.30 in the morning and 4pm. I dont for one minute think i would get anywhere...

    Dimsport rapid tuning box

I have a 2000 2.5 dse auto in standard trim and travel 80 miles a day, 60 miles on the motorway and 20 miles on a twisty A road, my journey is not on the flat and has some relatively steep climbs. According to the trip computer i get an average of 36.3 mpg on the motorway at 65mph and 25.1 mpg...

Can I completely remove ABS system???

I was unaware of the change to testing procedure this year, that's handy to know. So it is a case of strip out all the ABS components and revert to non ABS, that being the case wouldn't it be simpler and safer to fix the ABS HOTFUZZ? second hand parts aren't that expensive.

    Whats this?

Not sure about switching it but it only 2 plugs so if you didn't want to use it just disconnect and put your loom plugs back together? I'm not sure of the possible effects of towing with the powerbox, but better safe than sorry eh?

Can I completely remove ABS system???

Agree, but how would they test the ABS anyway? its not part of the MOT.

    Whats this?

Well as i said it doesn't seem to be doing anything to improve the performance so i think i'll remove it. What do i do with the 4 wires on the spade connector? will they need joining back together? I assume its 2 wires in the loom interrupted by this box's wiring?? Any suggestion on an...

Can I completely remove ABS system???

The MOT test only checks the braking effort in resistance to the driven rollers, as daft as it sounds the condition of the brakes is irrelevant as long as the discs have the minimum thickness, the hydraulic system has no leaks and the brakes have an even effect on each side of the axle and pass...

    Whats this?

I need some advice on what appears to be some sort of tuning device fitted to my DSE. Diesel tec 2000 ? ive searched the web and found nothing. The photos show the 2 points of connection into my loom but the sigle wire was disconnected and the blue wire on the loom has the insulation pared off...

    air con not cold

Any Air con company worth its salt will pressure test the system before filling. Most modern regas machine will not fill the system if it senses pressure loss. They will then insert a dye into the system and pressure with air to reveal the leak, most probably the condenser but if the system has...

    Target heights incorrect

Thanks for your advice wammers and everyone else, got it sorted. Took slack out of front sensors on the mounts, that gave me 2 beats, then bent the sensor arm on FR by approx. 3mm and that gave me another 2 beats. Captured the sensor figures at the desired height and its to within 5mm on all...

    Target heights incorrect

Adjustable drop links for the sensors would be the ideal fix, you could probably get it mm perfect then. Maybe something i'll look into in the future.

    Target heights incorrect

Thanks Wammers in going to have another go in a bit if time permits. I was going to employ the mechanical fix to the electrical glitch if I needed to...bend the bloody sensor arm !

    Target heights incorrect

So am I best to do one setting at a time? Go on Heights tab, set the height, retrieve sensor values, calibrate those values against that setting, write, read, goto that setting, Heights tab again, get values, confirm the are correct then stop the programme disconnect, start car check heights and...

    Target heights incorrect

I am as amazed as you Datatek, but can assure you I have measured 900mm floor to arch centre on high setting and 850mm floor to arch centre on standard setting. It seems impossible is a word not known at land rover? To achieve the desired ride heights as listed in in many postings of High...
