    Anti Roll bars

My Disco failed the MOT when I left the rear ARB off after giving it a two inch lift. So I refitted it using 2 x 1 inch tow bar spacers and it passed. The garage copied and highlighted the bit of the MOT manual which states that you shouldn't remove parts of the suspension as originally...

Are you aware that to change the cam belt on a D4 the body has to be lifted off?

James & Jamie, allow me to impress (or possibly depress) you with my communication, navigation, dual voltage charging facility.

    Timing belt and tensioner

My local independent Landrover specialist quoted me £270 all in for supplying and fitting a timing belt kit (comes with all pulleys) and replacing the front crank seals. That's on a Disco 300tdi. I've bought the bits off ebay and will be getting a mechanic friend to do it for around half that...

Broke down on the way to work

Replace the lift pump. They're good for about 100k. Cheap and easy to do.

I've just had a bit of a Google and it seems that a defender is classed as a high car (above 1.85m). And thinking about it, the check in is done automatically using number plate recognition so there's no one to question you anyway.

I'm planning to arrive at my sister's (Limoges) on Wednesday 1st at around late afternoon. Then spend Thursday, Friday and Saturday there, leaving Sunday morning to get the tunnel early evening.

    Portugal trek august 2015 anyone?

James, Saturday is the 4th not the 6th. I think that you are looking at June instead of July. We should be following the itinerary on the way back ie spending the 2,3 & 4th at my sisters and getting the channel tunnel on Sunday 5th. Most lorries are not allowed on French roads on Sunday making...

the money pit.........a tale of heart ache and expense

Gentlemen, Please don't assume that Jap = reliability. I had a Nissan Patrol. The flywheel oil seal went contaminating the clutch. Then the steering tractor seal leaked (similar to LR but the chrome balls are integral with the front axel) thankfully I got away with a new seal. Then the head...

Sorry James, I had some finger trouble with my previous post, we do not need to book, just turn up. We won't be taking food to BBQ with us, we will buy it at a local supermarket. As a guess we will be eating at the restaurant on the first night and doing a BBQ on the following day when you arrive.

Excellent. Glad you've found the passport as I think that you need the Queen's mother's signature in triplicate to get a new passport if you declare the old one lost or stolen. I have emailed camping Le Bounty and they are open and we do no need to book, so shall we make this or meeting place...

Yes, the value of the euro going down the toilet helps. Just like the UK, supermarket fuel is significantly cheaper than motorway fuel, and Spain is usually the cheapest country of the three. James, have a look at camping Le Bounty Lakes just south of Le Mans. Looks like a smaller site but...

We are still at 3 confirmed vehicles, anyone else out there interested? Meeting place still 20th June at 'Coja' central Portugal. However, two of us should be meeting around the 'Tours' area of France on the 17th June for the drive down. And diesel France, Spain and Portugal is less...

After years of wanting a land Rover, I finally have one

As you have no intention of off-roading it, may I suggest that you remove the propshaft and use it as a 2wd. You should gain a couple of mpg, but more importantly you will eliminate the transmission wind up and therefore improve its reliability. For your road trip to Paris this is well worth...
