this test best idea...not sure if theres alot to go wrong with the stop solenoid, only time i had 1 go wrong and the car wouldnt turn off by the key...

check compression on the cylinders see if it holds the pressure (within reason) could be a cracked bore liner or head as been mentioned. blocked radiator? viscous fan fitted? hope any of that helps

if u know the difflock is working it could just be the difflock indicator light, a few screws out n have the shroud and the cluster out will tell you if its that or not, saves gettin under it. swap the bulbs about and if still no luck u can trace the copper track back on the back of the cluster...

thanks mate. seems to be working ok, not pushing out anymore, flushed the radiator. still not got the heater matrix fully bled tho... keeps goin hot n cold but engine temp still ok. cheers

talkin of fast landys there was a 90 with a rover 220 turbo lump in it, mapped ecu and cammed, running about 300bhp allegedley. was in lro couple of years ago. u cud always do something like that if that floats ur boat. mate of mine has caterham 1.6 k series. pretty quick and still tops 55mpg...

hi, problem is the water is pumping out of the header tank cap after on 300tdi disco 95'. has just had done: head skim and headgasket, 3 hole new water pump new thermostat whilst driving after bleeding out water system heat can be found coming steadily out of the heater matrix in the car...
