Hi Guys , I'm struggling to get the new bottom seal into my steering box in situ . Does anyone know of any good method of getting the lip of the seal into place . I've been at it for hours and getting nowhere ! TIA for any advice .

Hi , the Circlip ends broke off when I was trying to remove the steering box bottom seal in situ . I'm at a loss as to how to deal with this . YouTube hasn't been much use .. all help welcome .

So I got the correct puller off eBay for the princely sum of £24.49 , using a breaker bar with a length of pipe and alternately tightening and battering from above the arm eventually surrendered it's grip . It put up one hell of a fight though !

Hi All , I want to buy one of those heavy black pullers off eBay but whereas they all look the same and are all described as Land Rover Defender drop arm pullers they have a variety of sizes given , 19mm , 24mm , 43mm , 57.5mm and even 75mm ! Can anyone shed any light on this ?

Thanks Grebby , but I am in Ireland . I would just use an angle grinder and chisel on the arm , it's the lack of access to the fluid pipe nuts on the steering box that bothered me . Maybe when the steering shaft is removed I'll be able to get my hand in under all those pipes that run over the...

Hi All , I accidentally popped the rear near side half shaft after I had checked and adjusted the wheel bearing . Any suggestions as to how I can get it back in ? It's sticking out about five inches and I keep meeting solid metal as I try to push it back in . Any tips much appreciated , thank you .

Back in 2015 when I first/last did this job I got the revised kit and would have just put on whatever was in that . I came across something last night suggesting that the spacer washer wasn't recommend for the shorter idler stud that came with the revised kit . And looking at Britannica's video...

I've just replaced my 300tdi timing belt . I've come across packing washer err1973 while perusing the internet , apparently for the idler pulley . I didn't see anything like it when doing the change . Could I have lost it and what would the consequences be if it's missing ? Thanks , Gerry .

Problem solved . It eventually occurred to me that if trying to put it on with a loose pulley was insufficient then take the pulley screw out altogether . So that is what I did and with the pulley hanging even lower the belt went on easily . Then using the breaker bar in the square hole I...

JulianF , when you zoom into your photo the way your timing belt comes off the pulley at an angle is just the way mine was when I put the new belt on . Is it supposed to be like that ? I was convinced it was misaligned and took it off again . Also the idler pulley looked to be ever so slightly...

Actually tried that too , even using the old pulleys and belt I can't get it back on . I did this job for the first and only time seven years ago and had no problems . I'm sorry I went near it now because the old belt and pulleys are like new !

I did , and they are identical . Tooth for tooth and the same numbers on the belt .

Hi Lynall , I tried all that , basically nothing works . I managed to get the belt on by putting the idler in with the belt in place , but that just resulted in a misaligned pulley and belt , so I had to take it off again .
