    engine paint colour

Photo is of the head after some cleaning - there is a slight hint of blue paint, so you are right, that does look like that was the original colour. I presume it is frowned-upon to change the colour (e.g. to limestone?), as that duck egg blue is a bit shocking.

    engine paint colour

Engine serial number starts 90127, one more photo below which i think just about shows block is the same colour as the head. Hope that helps. i appreciate the help.

    engine paint colour

I was originally planning to use the duck egg blue for the engine paint colour which I thought was the right colour. However, having got the head off now to have a closer look, it appears that the block and the head currently have a sand / limestone paint on them (which you can just about make...

    Can I save my bulkhead

I will be replacing my chassis as that is shot but it would be nice to keep the bulkhead if possible (partly to retain originality, party to keep costs down). I do have a mechanic nearby who is a very good welder. I have seen various repair panels/sections on the usual sites, but: Is it...

    ducellier distributor weights

The weights were stuck in my ducellier distributor. Whilst I have been able to free them off with a bit of WD40 and physical encouragement, I would like to remove them to clean them properly before reinstalling. But I cannot work out how to get them out. From what I can tell, I need to release...

    What to do with paintwork?

I don’t want to do any re-painting on the exterior panels of the car – partly as I am so bad at it. The panels have the usual bumps, dents, and scrapes (see photo), but I am hoping I can do something which makes it look better but also retaining the original patina. With a “normal” car, I would...

excess pressure in fuel pump mechanism

General background - for "interest" I have just rebuilt my fuel pump, as the diaphragm was on its last legs and little or no fuel was making its way to the carb. The rebuild included new diaphragm and new one-way valves. Having installed it, I tested it, and there was a healthy amount of fuel...

    foreign object in carburettor

I have now removed the oil bath air filter to clean it up and I cannot for the life of me work out how this bit of foil could possibly have got into the carb. There is no sign of anywhere it could have detached from, there are obviously the mesh filters in place, and nothing obvious in the air...

    foreign object in carburettor

I have checked and it is definitely foil. Maybe a piece of packaging of some sort. I have removed the connecting tube & hose between the air filter and the carb, and it doesn't look like it has come from there.

    foreign object in carburettor

I removed my weber carb today from the car, and I immediately noticed a strange object sitting just under the butterfly. It appears to be made of thick foil. I am thinking this is a stray piece of rubbish that has somehow made it into the carb, but I can’t imagine how something of this size...

    differential play

I have taken the two drive shafts off as part of dismantling the car ready for a new chassis. I find that i can move the rear diff about 15% forwards to back by hand before it engages. I have about the same amount of play on the front diff. I can't find a specification of what amount of play is...

    unidentified electrical component

It's odd that it's in the engine bay, as the driver is unlikely to hear any ticking (not that they care too much!). I think i will only find out for sure when i strip the dash, and work out what the wires from the component connect to. I will post a reply when i find out (but that is a few weeks...

    unidentified electrical component

Don't be silly. FC only works at 88mph, and my Landy is never going to be capable of that (except if dropped off a high bridge).

    unidentified electrical component

Sorry for that. It's a 1973 series 3 swb, civilian. Hasn't been mot-able for many years.

    unidentified electrical component

I have a component in the engine bay, attached to the bulkhead, just above the brake master cylinder. At the moment, it has 2 wires attached, that disappear through the bulkhead, although there is a third spade on the component unconnected. I can't work out what this component is - can someone...

    timing order question

I have just acquired a 1973 series 3 that has not run for 2 years and was used for moving wood for many years prior. It needs a fair extensive restoration. To get it into my garage from the tow truck was a struggle: the starter motor barely worked (sorted after i cleaned up the relevant...
