    Freelander TD4 won't start - garage advice??

Sounds like it could be the camshaft position sensor which is only used when starting ie tells ECU where camshaft is in relation to crankshaft and isn't needed when the engine starts. Allan

    Back Window Problem

Take the trim off the door and see if the cables are intact. Also check the door handle to see if the switch is working properly. Will the window go down on the dash switch or with the key in the rear door lock? Allan

repair kit for freelander window regulators

Please calm down TD4. Here's one I wrote earlier and like others have said this is hardly a new problem. "I too have replaced the broken and damaged cables from the rear window mechanism with pedal cycle brake cables. I used the nipple that came with the cable filed down to suit at one end and...

I need your old window regulators

In the immortal words of Mr Haynes "replacement is the reverse of the disassembly procedure" This is only a piece of wire after all. Allan

repair kit for freelander window regulators

Not neccessarily. I made up the ends from brazing a lump on the cable end. Even if you have to get someone to do the ends for you it is still cheaper than a new complete unit. I'm all for repair not renew. Allan

    cam sensor

£55 from LR is cheaper than what they used to be so I'd say that's a bargain. Go for it, you know it'll be worth it when the damn thing fails to start again at a critical time when you need to be somewhere. Allan

repair kit for freelander window regulators

If you search the archives there is quite a bit about this. I used bicycle brake cables and made my own ends for a total cost of £10. You have to be careful with the winding of the cable onto the spiral plastic drum and make sure you note what bits of cable ends go where. Taking photos is a good...

Oil and filter change TD4 ?

Yes it is an easy job to do an oil and filter change. As has been said you need to drop the undertray, which is just spanners and a screwdriver. The oil filter isn't a spin on so no strap wrench required. The filter is a replaceable element type and that's what Shutty has mentioned the 36 mm...

    replacing front break discs

Yes they are easy to replace. The discs come of very quickly without any hassle, unlike my old Mondeo when they had to be cut off with an angle grinder. Alan

    Tailgate opening by it's self

I think Innes means the whole tailgate not just the window. I've had the window problem which was traced to "a bad earth". The handle might be sticking so worth a look at the solenoid which doesn't release the catch until the window has lowered that bit. Please let us know how you get on. Allan

    vibration at low revs,

Seems low miles for injector problems but you could try disconnecting the electrical plug from each injector in turn and see if it is one of them misfiring. Allan

smoke coming out behind front bumper?

As has been said it is the fuel burning heater which only operates in cold temperatures. It is there because the TD4 is very efficient heat wise and without the FBH would take ages to warm up the heater. You haven't got aproblem. Don't worry. Allan

td4 overhaul kit for the engine

Presumably you mean the auxiliary drive belt that drives the alternator and the water pump. So perhaps that 30 mile drive wasn't such a good idea as the engine may well have overheated. More information would be useful although the "mechanic" sems to be generalising a bit. There must be...

    TD4 Injector Removal

Well it's finally out. There are a couple of photos below but suffice to say it is one of the most miserable jobs I've ever done on a car. I ended up using a rotary file to reshape the top of the injector so as to be able to remove the c clamp and then extracted the puny studs from either side...

    TD4 Injector Removal

Not much further along really. I made up a puller which used M10 thread for the main bit and that broke in tensile last night when I tightened it up with no sign of the injector moving. I'm going to try a higher tensile strength fastener but at the moment it's looking like the head off method as...

    TD4 Injector Removal

Well tried the slide method. Either TD6 injectors are a lot stronger or different because all that has happened is the cap off the injector disintegrated. Not surprising really as it turned out to be mostly plastic. So now one immobile Freelander and wondering where I go from here. Allan
