Safari-Equip - anyone try their steering guards??

Yeah, that occurred to me to! There are such a variety on the market and as I doubt that I'll see an actual example in the flesh before ordering, does anyone have a recommendation?

Rust bleeding over the rear off-side mudflap!

Black does show up every minor scratch and swirl. Not actually got around to giving mine a good polish yet but that's what it needs. A light cut, polish and seal. Getting totally off my topic now, but when it went in for service I was asked if I wanted an optional engine flush type treatment...

Rust bleeding over the rear off-side mudflap!

Had a quick chat with the tech guy who said it was a common'ish problem and they would replace it. Now booked in next Wednesday to have the bits sorted. I was kinda hoping to fit the new step myself but I suppose it does mean less work for me! The only negative was that I did ask that they...

Rust bleeding over the rear off-side mudflap!

Looks like they are replacing it FOC. Didn't even have to argue! :D They also picked up water ingress to 1 front headlight and 1 rear indicator which they are replacing under warranty and there is an advisory on a minor oil leak (I believe gearbox) which they shall be inspecting further...

Rust bleeding over the rear off-side mudflap!

Well I dropped the car off for it's service at 8am this morning. Mentioned the rust bleeding from the rear step and showed the service person the problem. Apparently it's up for the service technician to take a look and discuss it with Land Rover, if it's a known issue then it may not be a...

Rust bleeding over the rear off-side mudflap!

"critical towpoint, design flaw, should be galvanised etc"...very good point. At the end of the day no cars that Land Rover sell are inexpensive, their customer service should reflect this. I wish it was booked in for tomorrow, I'd prefer to have the argument sooner rather than later :D

Rust bleeding over the rear off-side mudflap!

That's pretty much what I wanted to hear :D I have the original invoice for the step which is dated 23rd Feb 2007. The only issue is that my local dealer (Stratstone Cardiff) who I shall be taking it to didn't supply the step, I don't imagine that will be an issue as it's LR who will be...

Rust bleeding over the rear off-side mudflap!

Ok, tell me what you think my chances are of getting the step replaced under warranty? This is the scenario: Defender is 13 months old. Rear step was purchased from Land Rover dealer 11 months ago. The nylon finish of the step has started to peel in one corner. The step fills with...

Rust bleeding over the rear off-side mudflap!

note...make sure you have all the tools required before starting! Pretty much got all the nuts and bolts off then realised I didn't have a 14mm hex wrench for the two central hex bolts. Now back together again, shall pick up the required wrench tomorrow. Some of the paint on the step has...

Rust bleeding over the rear off-side mudflap!

I'm going to have a go taking it off this afternoon if only clean up the area that the rust is pi$$ing out from and make sure that there isn't actually a rusty spot there. Thanks for the advice guys

Rust bleeding over the rear off-side mudflap!

I really need to spend some time removing it just to see what's causing the bleed and exactly where it's coming from. You mention that the warranty on it is 12 months, so I'm guessing that my dealer will charge me to rectify the problem (remove the step and find the cause of the bleed) as the...

Rust bleeding over the rear off-side mudflap!

Actual picture of the 'bleed'. I have checked and there is nothing on the inside of the arch etc.

Rust bleeding over the rear off-side mudflap!

I do have the tubular side steps and similar rear step. The rust looks like it's running from the top of the right hand side of the rear tubular step where it bolts to the rear sub-frame. I would guess your correct that it an issue caused by the step but probably the rear one - the staining...

Rust bleeding over the rear off-side mudflap!

Thinking of it logically it's unlikley to be bleeding via these bolt holes - they are on an upward sloping part of the crossmember so water isn't going to stand there and exit through the holes. I do have a step running from to side to side at the rear, perhaps this has been rubbing against...

Rust bleeding over the rear off-side mudflap!

I did think of that, it could be running out through the fixing holes for the mudflaps??? Perhaps a splodge of silicon on the threads of the bolts before re-fixing will cure it. I realise it's just cosmetic but it's annoying me :)

Rust bleeding over the rear off-side mudflap!

Just bought a LR, a December 2006 Defender. It's in perfect condition having covered just 7000 miles. What I have noticed is what looks like rust bleeding over the off-side rear mudflap. I assumed that perhaps the mounting plate of the mud-flap had been scraped and started to rust. I...

New TD5 owner - upgrade advice

Definitely agree about the tachometer, I feel it needs one, a lot of the time it sounds like I'm thrashing it (relatively!) but I don't know how many revs I'm actually producing - I'm not used to the harshness of the engine (sounds a lot noisier than the cars I'm used to) but what I feel is...
