    Trying to diagnose coolant problem

Cheers for the tip, how I've missed spending weekends crawling over the Flndr trying to find out what problems are (to be fair it has been ok for about 12 months). Anyway least I've got some more ideas to check out.

    Trying to diagnose coolant problem

Aargh ! Still can't solve this intermitent coolant loss, expansion cap fine and left it running on drive for 1/2 hour with no signs of drips/evaporating coolant during or afterwards. Oil is fine and no oil in coolant. No coolant lost during a week of normal driving then bob's your uncle drops...

    Trying to diagnose coolant problem

Cheers, another good tip. We've already got a big dog who hates cats! But this bloody cat is so cocky that when he is not under bonnet of Flndr he'll sit on step outside front door so dog can smell/hear him but not get to him (meanwhile dog is going ballastic indoors!) Anyway enough of my cat...

    Trying to diagnose coolant problem

Cheers, hadn't thought about checking cap or signs of leak around there (doh!) so will try again tonight. Next doors cat is now so cocky that it stays there even if central locking opened and waits until door opened. Someone suggested leaving window open and keys in ignition and giving it a...

    Trying to diagnose coolant problem

Hi guys, not been around a while (basically because our FLndr has been fine for last few months!) Anyway I'm trying to figure out some problems with coolant loss and not panic about HG just yet. I've no problems with mayo in oil or oil in coolant and engine seems to be running fine at present...

    When Freelanders turn bad !

Sorry that's one of the few things that hasn't broke yet (nervous writing this now!). I'm sure it has been posted up many times though so worth a good search around.

    When Freelanders turn bad !

Remove interior window corner trim to access screws for wing mirror very carefully! The push clip on ours snapped as I pulled it off and might be worth a spray of WD40 first to loosen (now held in place by blue tack which has held in the 2 further occasion wife has broken mirror!). The screws to...

Who says the 1.8k is rubbish?

could be that until you get one you think they are pretty cool and friends and neighbours continue to be impressed. Once you've got it (v6 and diesels aside) its hard to admit a mistake, especially when others continue to think its a a decent motor. Noticed that resale prices for older models...

Who says the 1.8k is rubbish?

Wife's 1.8 does the job is was bought for. That being taking her to and from work down 5 odd miles of single lane high hedged lanes that flood in spring and autumn and occasionally freeze during winter. During the summer the lost tourists tend to pull over when a 4x4 is heading towards them at...

Who says the 1.8k is rubbish?

    Rumble - growl from front

Indeed no, though only after mirror no. 2 did I discover that she did not realise that you could pull the mirrors back when trying to get through tight spaces:eek: . To be fair no.3 was someone else's fault

    Rumble - growl from front

Cheaper than the 3 mirrors she has left in walls/hedges though!:D

    Rumble - growl from front

Wife's had a 98 1.8 5door for 18months and despite most things going wrong with it from time to time it has performed consistently noisily since we have had it. Worried about noise at first but basically put it down underpowered engine trying to pull the lump along. Does get quieter the faster...

Water dripping from under the car?

We recently had problem with leak from expansion tank hose where it joins main coolant rail in T joint. Perished pipe end not water tight with jubilee clip holding it on. Only leaked after engine and coolant properly warmed up. Loss of coolant was almost not noticable but always chance it can...
