Midlands Specialists? (Newbie looking to buy a Defender)

Yes, Marc has been very quick to reply whenever I've checked, unfortunately it's just been to confirm that he's still not got anything. Basically I think that I know of anywhere that is a "proper" dealer/specialist by now via Auto Trader and eBay but as I said I'm sure there are places that...

Midlands Specialists? (Newbie looking to buy a Defender)

I'm just in the process of Googling any specialist (repair/servicing) that I can find in the Midlands to ask them if they can pass on my details to anyone they may know who is thinking of selling - appreciate any suggestions as I'm going off what Google turns up.

Midlands Specialists? (Newbie looking to buy a Defender)

Tamworth way. I don't think I'd be comfortable just stopping and saying "Interested in selling the 90" tbh, but I was hopeful that on a forum like this someone might know someone selling something original/unmolested etc. Seems the "Wanted" section doesn't get too many views though.

Midlands Specialists? (Newbie looking to buy a Defender)

Not since last week. I'm still keeping them in mind though. Ideal world would be for some sort of "lead" to come from somewhere like here to someone selling a bit older but tidy/original 200tdi wagon.

Been to Nene/RJ/Shardlow today - still looking if anyone knows of anything.

    Liveridge 4x4

Thanks, not heard of them - will try and give them a buzz. Still looking but there's a few that look decent (on paper etc.) at either A V Neath, Nene Overland and Dunsfords - be interested in any opinions on those beyond the obvious search/google stuff.

Car Park Height Restrictions - Any Problems?

Thanks for the replies. Just to be clear, I wouldn't be looking at a lifted/roof-racked vehicle, just a totally normal bog standard Defender.

Car Park Height Restrictions - Any Problems?

The original plan (cheap-ish Defender as a second car just for me) may have changed slightly into "Get a newer truck or CSW and have it as a second car for the family". Of course this means it would be used for more things such as shopping. I'd not thought of this before, but do Defenders...

    Liveridge 4x4

Thanks, that does make sense - as I said I think it's a mindset thing :) I know it's easy to buy a pig in lipstick. I'm near Tamworth and you know how the stock situation seems to be with most places at the moment so impatience is getting the better of me even if it is a toy/no rush etc.

    Liveridge 4x4

I think I worded my original post badly. I'm used to the "normal car" thing of going to a dealers, seeing a row of shiny cars that are more or less prepped for sale barring a wash down. Liveridge seem to specialize in custom stuff to the extent that most vehicles they have, even if they look...

    Liveridge 4x4

Thanks, though I've already done that - bit surprised at only 12 matches (and three being threads of mine!) given AIUI they're one of the larger specialists.

    Liveridge 4x4

Anyone have any experiences? I'm looking for a Defender and they're relatively local but, and I guess this is a "getting into the Defender vs. normal cars mindset", they seem to do a lot of build to order so when you're looking around the yard their vehicles are pretty much unprepped because...

    Truck Cab vs. Hard Top?

I'm still on the lookout for "the right" Defender 90. I hadn't really considered the truck cab until I saw one at Liveridge today. Other than the bleeding obvious i.e. it doesn't have a roof, is there any inherent disadvantage to the truck cab over a hard top?

Midlands Specialists? (Newbie looking to buy a Defender)

Another week and still bugger all out there - every specialist says the same thing, they can't get enough vehicles. 90boy, I'm keeping it in mind but an unmolested 90 CSW is still my first choice so if anyone does know of one going in my area....

Midlands Specialists? (Newbie looking to buy a Defender)

Knew that was coming :D Tbh I still want to go climb over a few more without wasting private sellers time - at least at a dealers you can say "Oh I'm fine just leave me to have a nose around".

Midlands Specialists? (Newbie looking to buy a Defender)

This is getting a bit crazy. I check eBay and Auto Trader each day and so far without exception every single vehicle that's looked of interest has already sold by the time I've called/emailed.

Midlands Specialists? (Newbie looking to buy a Defender)

Any more suggestions gratefully received. Liveridge was well worth a trip, got the feeling they were top money but I shall be keeping an eye on their stock to see if something comes in. Craddocks, Shardlow 4x4, Exmod all have nothing at all and said along the lines of they'd love to have...

a few questions on a landy i am looking at

I have a similar problem here in the Midlands, very little by way of places with several vehicles to go look at. Most of the places I've spoken to that specialise in Land Rovers have said they're simply not seeing the stock, and this is with around £6k to spend on a 90 CSW or similar - they...

    What to look for?

Can I ask if this advice is to avoid buying a shed, or to get anything but a mint example please? I ask as I'm also going to be looking at Defenders soon with a view to buying one and beyond the usual common sense stuff I know jack about Defenders - it's more daunting spending £5k on one than...

Midlands Specialists? (Newbie looking to buy a Defender)

Thanks both. Interesting as Craddocks is not far yet in all my hunting/digging I'd never heard of them! In my case, depending whether the specialists sell older vehicles, I think "slightly over priced" may not be a huge issue if it means a sound vehicle as I don't have the knowledge as to...
