bmw make some good engines, well they used to lol but the the engine out of a 530d is not one of them, it goes wrong a lot and gets through turbos. I would choose another lump
EveningHi all,
Has anyone put an M57 (530d) engine into a classic ?
Interested in any pointers you may have.
Particularly wondering if the zf box will be able to handle the power from this engine or what options are there ?
Thanks.
Evening
I’ve just finished a conversion using the bmw six speed xx gs6-53 ‘box
The Land Rover boxes are not really up to the power/torque
An r380 can be made to work but it’s definitely heavy on them. No idea about the auto. The bmw auto (6hp) is an easy fit as the selector is cable operated.
Fairly straightforward except the gear linkage kit provided by house of talk/mw machines doesn’t fit under the dash unless you use early suffix set up. My solution was to use the discovery selector top but they are hard to find and you need your own brackets.
The offside v8 engine mount gets in the way and needs to be removed.
Time has proven that bloke below dead wrong
The tdv6 is an absolute disgrace. How any modern engine can spin bearings or snap cranks begs belief. Meanwhile m57 engines running heavy boost are still going strong under unspeakable conditions. Mine is running 300hp after 160k miles with no issues
WelpppA BMW engine is the last engine I would consider putting in anything apart from a skip.

So how about showing it? (new thread needed)
We all like a change of thinking. Sometimes.
Oh and welcome.
