Can anyone who has removed/installed the instrument panel housing in a 'eighties RR Classic tell me the socket size needed for the nuts (4 off) that secure the housing to the facia? The last time I did this job I figured it would be much easier to tackle these nuts with a ratchet & socket, but...

I used exhaust brakes on HGV's decades ago with varying degrees of success, depending on the veh. manuf. You need a large piston surface area & relatively high engine revs for an EB to be effective.

Cheers D. Of the four RRC's I've owned only two (inc. this one) have experienced this problem & on both occasions it's been the NSF .. you'd think the driver's door would be the most likely, given it's usage. I always 'exercise' the windows that get little use as I know the grease can harden...

I'd say that at 121K the speedo has done well & now had it's day. I shall be renewing the second-hand unit in my Classic this year, despite the cost :(

Exactly what mine did at bang-on 63K miles. Attempts to have it repaired failed due to lack of parts as this era of instrument falls between the old fashion 'clocks & modern digital. You could try to source a second-hand one, depending on how much you value the correct milage being displayed...

Short runs with their associated cold starts are a killer. I once had a 3.5 efi auto that returned 7mpg (brim-to-brim check) because I had no choice but to use the car for a week of 5 mile single journeys in the middle of winter.

Strange how people's experience varies, even those owning the same make/type of engines. I've used Champions in a variety of cars, not just 4x4's, for decades & can't remember ever having a problem though admittedly the recommended replacement interval of 12k may be shorter than modern plugs...

My V8 RRC will be 40 years old in 2027, but because it was built in June it won't be until April '28 that I can apply for Historic status :( So £360 (+ 5% as I pay by monthly DD) on renewal this year.

+ 1 That explains why Gen Z drivers look puzzled when I tell them my 'daily' BM is 27 years old, their technology oriented brains can't grasp the concept o_O
