    Iv had an early RR where the oil has gone back up the speedo cable. Have a check… unless you have the later transducer driven speedo

    I don't know your car, but on Volvo's it was the sort of ratchet mechanism that advanced the counter getting gummed up that stopped it working. A wash out with contact cleaner followed by a little clock oil sometimes fixed the problem.
