I don't know your car, but on Volvo's it was the sort of ratchet mechanism that advanced the counter getting gummed up that stopped it working. A wash out with contact cleaner followed by a little clock oil sometimes fixed the problem.

I think you will find they are thicker walled than 1mm. 1mm walled nylon pipe is a real bastard for kinking.

A 7.50 x 16 should have a 7.50” side wall and 7.50” section width. In practice many will be a bit taller esp if a mud terrain.
