    S3 109 Safari project......

I’ve been having great fun aligning the roof, side panels, ‘b’ posts and windscreen today 🤬. Had to resort to some tweaking with ratchet straps to get the bulkhead into a better position. Also had to do the same with the ‘b’ posts. I’ll tighten the bolts down on the roof and see how it all looks...

Thought I would take the opportunity to use my son to give me a hand to lift the roof for a trial fit. Not too bad a fit but will definitely need some jiggling around to get a better fit!

Ha, ha - I actually have an air rivet gun, but no compressor any more 😂. Hopefully not too many rivets to install, so just bought another manual one for now.

Followed the same process as the other side to clean, paint, seal and install the window channel. It was a bit more challenging but i got there. Need to go and buy another rivet gun now!

    S3 109 Safari project......

I gave the two stainless rails a polish to get rid of some rusty marks to make them a bit better looking. Although I am surprised that they are still good after all these years. After cleaning them I started riveting them on, then my rivet gun exploded into numerous pieces 🤣. I couldn’t finish...

    S3 109 Safari project......

Thankfully I managed to buy some pins off eBay - LR Optional Parts and they came in a few days. Great service 👍. I fitted the catches to the glass, gave the glass a clean, painted the round securing nuts silver to make them look a bit better 😊. Fitting the channels was a bit of a faff, but once...

    S3 109 Safari project......

To move on the window installation, I cleaned up the two sliding window catches. They cleaned up quite well, but unfortunately I am missing the two plungers. So if anyone knows where I can get some, let me know! To get this moving I used the ones from the other side. I cleaned them lubricated...

    S3 109 Safari project......

Thought I would tackle the o/s glass channel today. The channel itself was quite sound as it was galvanised, but the felt runners were completely shot and a pig to get out! After some fighting and swearing I managed to get the channel stripped. I cleaned the small areas of rust and remnants of...

    S3 109 Safari project......

Thanks - yes it’s been a real job sifting out nearly 20 years of ‘stuff’ and I’ve had to be ruthless to make even a dent in it! Many runs to the recycling and scrap man later and I’m making some progress. I managed to sell my cars and ramp, but obviously held onto the Landy 😀. It’s been quite...

    S3 109 Safari project......

With everything going on with my garage upheaval, I thought it would take my mind off it all by picking up my freshly painted front panel. Great to see it painted at least. A step in the right direction 😀.

Been quiet of late folks as I’m currently gutting out my workshop. Hopefully will be able to get alternative space sorted soon. Cheers

All sorted now - thanks folks!

    S3 109 Safari project......

I stripped down the seat frames and rails to send them for blasting and powder coating and found on of the frames was corroded at the corner and holed. I thought a local repair would be sufficient as the rest was in good condition. In hindsight, a full repair section might have been neater, but...

I have the front panel a good coat of Kurust then where the filler work is needed on the front, I gave it a dusting of primer. Next job is to fill and flat until it’s ready for painting.
