Hi all, please can anyone advise on the following.

Series 3 petrol with Zenith 36 IV carburettor. Engine only runs smoothly whilst on choke. Once warmed up and choke selected off the engine stutters/stops but sometimes revving it will keep it going but remains rough running.

I've dismantled the carb, cleaned all the parts and re-assembled but no improvement. I noticed a bored out hole that seems to be threaded all be it mangled. Should a jet be in the hole? Please see pics.

Thank you.

Been a while since I done stuff with carbs but recon having used 36iv's and looking at diagram it is number 27 compensating jet that is missing.
Main issues I found with the 36iv were worn throttle spindle holes in case, the diaphragm, incorrect float level.

It appears nothing goes in there from what I saw

Take a look.

I've had a look at that video before and to me it looks like there might be something in the hole. I've contacted Geoff and hopefully he'll respond. Thanks

Ok thanks for the info. There's not much play in the throttle spindle holes and I've adjusted the float level. I'll check rebuild kits and see if I can get hold of the compensating jet.

Just looked a little closer pause at 11:02 and yes it looks like there is a jet in there.
But didn't see him remove or clean it which threw me a bit.

Found it... Courtesy of a rebuild documented on Auto Express. It's the Choke Compensation Screw. Now I just have to work out how to fit a new one in a pretty mangled hole!
