My youngest daughter ,20 this year ,,,,,,, failed her test today cos as ahe was attempting to move away from the approaching bus lane into the outside lane ,guess what a doubledecker bus cut her up which cut in sharp left in its bus lane and she got caught at the side of it ,she parcialy entered the bus lane so the examiner failed her ,**** ! but alas il think she pass shortly . Anyway been studying car insurance quotes on the internet ,fooking hell what chance has she or any other youngun got of getting on the road / none from what iv found ,my first insurance in 1982 was 90 quid ,fire and theft on a mk 3 cortina ,so how in say 29 years its now £3500,00 or thereabouts ???????? think theres a definate racket going on here ,maybe its time for a goverment backed insurance scheme for young drivers ? cos in 5 years time nobody under 25 will be on the rd ,sounds good at the moment but think about it no young people on the rd so eventually no business for all car related businesses .

Thank god pricing is based on risk these days. It means I pay less, and aren't subsidising young people's accidents. Bit unlucky that EU ruling's been made to equalise boys and girls' insurance - but there you go huh.

What do you mean "no young people on the rd so eventually no business for all car related businesses" - it doesn't make sense.

think the only way round it is to have them on your insurance as a named driver , some companies do let named drivers collect no claims discount , only problem if they do prang it your insurance goes up . ****e all round really

If you think from a more far reaching view ,if no youngsters today were allowed a licence for say 10 years ,in ten years time there would a reduction in work for garages ,etc and no new car insurance policys to sell would there ,so in the end all these companies would go bust cos no new customers ! and also how many people alive today will be gone in ten years ? my estimate 9,10 million yes million ,the death rate isnt much different to the birth rate ,immigration apart that is ,theres approx 1 millon born a year and approx 1 million deaths a year so work it out ,so no new drivers and everything will grind to a halt .

Expensive car insurance doesn't prevent the youngsters around here from driving

Most of them haven't got a licence, mot or tax either.

The cops pull them and seize the car.

They then go and buy another car for £100 or so, get fined for the rest of it, never pay the fines because they're already having the maximum possible deducted from their benefits for their other little transgressions, and are a f******g nuisance again within a couple of days.

no it wont - coz all the youngsters will have to go by bycicle or public transport - and then the government will tax bicycles and make them have insurance. They will also put the prices up on public transport accordingly.

Get a crappy little 1 litre corsa and it will cost about £700 or something to insure. She'll probably prang it at some stage... but being an old car so what. Eventually she'll build up her no claims and be able to get a descent car.

I based the quote on a renault clio 1.2 51 plate car worth about 1k ,also did a corsa which was about the same .

Insurers cannot charge different premiums to men and women because of their gender, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) has ruled.

The decision means that women can no longer be charged lower car insurance premiums than men, and the cost of buying a pensions annuity will change.

The court was ruling on a challenge by a Belgian consumer group Test-Achats.

It had argued that a current exemption for insurers contradicted the wider European principle of gender equality.

"Taking the gender of the insured individual into account as a risk factor in insurance contracts constitutes discrimination," the ECJ said.

The requirement for unisex insurance premium and benefits will start on 21 December 2012, giving national governments and the European insurance industry time to adjust."

They said on the radio women would go up by 25% and men down by 10%

At 17 with one years no claims bonus it is very hard to get a good deal but £2000 on a 1994 2.5 turbo diesel Land Rover Defender under my name is not bad concidering my mate with a 1.2 Vauxhall corsa paying £2,500, so it is good to shop around! (took me a month to find an insurer!) :D

Which classic car insurer is doing insurance for 17 and 18 year olds? I thought they have a min. age limit of 21 or 25 or something; and that one of the conditions of the insurance is you own another car (which is used, ie also has insurance on it).

Footman James do. You have to ring them up as they don't do it online....

And only conditions are limited mileage (5000 for my Friend with the Herald but has an option to extend) and a member of the owners club.

No worse than in 88 when I passed my test.
£400 tpft for a 1256 vauxhall viva.
But I was only earning £30 a week. Didnt have min wage back then.
So it was a lot for me.
