Now im in the same boat as you best 4x4xfar, I brought a series 3 just before christmas and hope to get it on the road when im 17. Friends have told me to try propa classic car insurers as they will do a good deal. A friend of mine had a 1989 turbo diesel 110 for his first car and it cost £800 on third party. Now I dont think this is too bad as other mates of mine spend as much as £1200 on fiestas worth only £600 in value. The engine size of the car isnt actually always the crucial value point of insurance, its based on a point system and therefor the higher the insurance group on the car the more they rip you off

my series 2a came in quite cheap compared to my fiat seicento on my own policy and im only 19, however that is after a years no claims bonus.

Not sure which classic insurer was the one my mate used, i'll try and find out. See this is the trouble, with most of them you have to be over21!!

I just turned 19 and have had my landy for a year...
try to get yourself as a named driver on a parent's policy... preferably if they have a good no claims bonus... mine was 6 years no claims, and it cost 1100 for the year with endsleigh. Even better, try to get insured with the NFU... if you are a farmer or whatever you can get cheap insurance cos you can say its an agricultural vehicle...
hope that helps
best of luck

I will try putting it as an agricultuaral vheicle never tried that, but i every time i have but myself as second driver and my dad 1st coz he has had 6 years no claims and its still sky high.

But in 3 years tiem when i wil leanr to drive my old man says he wil just put mew under my big bros name coz he will be on his own then , so that might do it.

Dont forget the recent announcements of all insurance premiums will be going up with the where theres blame theres a claim culture. Somethign stupid like 30% of your premium is there to cover no win no fee injury stuff.

Compared to other cars a Series III is quite cheap insurance. I'm 18 at the moment and have looked into it quite extensively, although my S3 doesn't have an MOT (yet) I have looked into it.

I got quotes from £1050 to £2700 for Comprehensive insurance in my name. Considering that a friend in school insured her car in her name (Peugeot 206) 1.2L engine for £1200 and she's (obviously) a girl then paying £1050 isn't bad considering the engine's almost twice the size, and it's a 4x4.

I got a letter today from budget , after my quote on the net for series III:eek:

And it would cost me - £2217.19 :(

Thats third party and just as a named driver
