Having a senior moment
Hi folks... I would really like a list of reasonably local sites that my 11 year old can drive at.

Currently he drives at Whaddon and that is all, but I am sure that there will be one or two more within two or three hours' drive that he can practise his driving skills at.

If anyone knows of one would they please post it so that we can take a look!

Cheers:D

have you tried Bures? Not that far from you, but not sure if they allow younger drivers.

Thanks to you both... the M65 is a fair trek from me here in Luton. I have taken a look at Bures though.

It seems that it was closed for a while and has now been opened by new management. Looks like a great site but it does insist on a full driving license for all drivers so that one is out of the running unfortunately.

Cheers

I was just going to say that Bures is not for young drivers. They always ask to see your licence and Marshalls are all over the place once in, so would probably not take well if they see an 11 year old driving.

Will check around myself though as my 15 year old would like a go of driving.

There is a big site near Bedford, off the A6 I think. Its called something like the Devils Pit. I will see if I can find a link.

Hi Brian, Yes we lilve about 3 miles from Devils Pit, but to be honest few of the landy owners ehere really go there. lots of idiots and no youngsters allowed to drive... also the chalky soil sticks like concrete!

We do use Whaddon over towards Milton Keynes. Young drivers are welcome there. Even Luke, my 8 year old, has been known to have a drive and Kai drives there regularly.

I just think it would be nice for him to experience somewhere different.

Hate to say it but Tyro is the answer. its far better than Whaddon. Whaddon is good to get clutch control and the basics. Pull off safley safe use of the hand brake and decents etc but after that Tyro all the way after getting in with the club after attending a fair bit then setting/laying out a whole day for free all you have to do is marshall the next day. Last year i was back in well enough to run a couple of tyros and the JTV's but this year I've been outter the loop busy. Will get back in next year deffo! for the CCV stuff

I know you are right Jai; but Kai can't drive a tyro for the next 18 months. He is begging me to get a series III because he knows that we should be able to afford to run it more often than our V8.

Whaddon is great... and I really appreciate having them so close and for him to be able to practise there... but a something a little different would be good too!

You got a series 3!

Best bet would be to
Sell the whole lot as one put it back together because itw worth alot more complete especially as its an original safari get £500 put towards an 88 and get your welder out!

or

Rebuild that 109 asap but it will take at least a year and plenty of £££ to get it mot standard.

Buy a suzuki and trailer it to the sites (cheap fun and throw away when too messed up)

:pop2:

Jamie...

we're thinking of getting something to play with... There's no way Kai will get rid of his 109, but have to seriously consider getting rid of the V8 if I want him to drive more often.

Mat- interested to know how much you would be paying on your insurance for that at 17?

Ryder Disco TDI is the cheapest motor about these days LR wise couple of hundred quid and some welding plus another couple of hundred quid to get it mot'd would see you with a motor that far cheaper to run

its on a buisness policey but i priced it up around £7000,
how silly, i know.
its more than the cars worth
iv got pulled up by the police so many times because i look to young!!

you're dads business is paying £7000 to insure you to drive his disco. what is he, a drug dealer???
