This morning I went out, used the original key held against the rear side window and it unlocked the car, but on starting, I had the same message, key fob battery low.

I tried to repeat the excercise with the other key.. nothing.

At least I can get her running, and tomorrow I will ask LR Dealership for Key Code, just in case, and ask them to order new keys..

Have you tried replacing the RF amp!.It may simply be faulty:confused:

You may have two key "1's" you cannot have two keys of the same number. it is possible to have a maximum of three keys. You would need to identify which keys you have and particularly which key number works before you think of ordering new keys or you will end up wasting your money. Low battery could just be a poor replacement battery.
 
The RF could be faulty, I agree, but my keys are also a bit on the chewed side.

They are No's 1 & 2 and both worked well, but when the car came home, instantly both stopped working.

The LR Specialists I used are well known and just around the corner from me, the car was there for 3 weeks, and every day it was started up and no problem at all occured, it came home... and it all started up again.

I have to assume that a faulty anything would show up when it was there.

Something has to interfering with the car here...... it must be, nothing else makes any sense at all.

Question, how come I cant sync the key fob, using the methods mentioned unless the RF blue cable is connected?
 
Well it seems I will have to trade this car in. I am sad about it, as I was determined to win this battle of wits, but I cant find the answer.

I cant force myself away from RR though, so I will check out a newer one.

Having to mess around with the RF box every time I have to go out and about, is just out of the question.

I double checked with the LR specialists and they confirm a new battery was fitted to the No 1 fob, and have discouraged me from spending more money on new fobs, as the car security works perfectly well there.

My car is the 2000 model, and should be post all the problems with RF anyway.

I am now going to buy a 2003 model, with the hope that this particular problem is cured.

The car in question is not with this garage, as they dont sell cars, so they would nothing to gain by guiding me not to spend more on this car.

So guys and gals, whats your opinion on the 2003 4.4 V8 Vogue?

I didnt love the 2.5 diesel engine, as I dont like having to put my foot to the floor to get a response.

I dont do a lot of miles per year so Petrol costs dont make a huge difference.
 
hi petbe the 2000 p38 still have rf problems, i know this as mine has hade them. if i where you i would get the new rf box, you defo have a problem where you live. if you park on your drive way leave it on the road one night see if it is any better..
 
Hi PetBE, Mine is a very late 2001 model and I had the Rf problems every day until I removed the Blue wire......(I was always affected because of the amount of Wireless internet used in my area.).

I still occasionally have a problem with the engine being disabled, even though I used the remote to unlock the doors ??? but I manage to re-synce the key, sometimes it takes couple of tries, If I have a problem, and it does not resync, I just get out use the remote to lock the door and reopen with the remote and then press the buttomn while turning the ignition and all is well...........

Again In the past I had the message , low key fob battery, but I have never changed it and it is still fine......some times I have to be right up close to the rear side window to open, other times I can be about 10 foot away....weird.....

The problem you have described is definitely an RF receiver problem and for £150 it would be cured. Or for around £12 000 you could cure it with a 2003 4.4......the early L322s like the 2003 one you are talki ng about, are popping up on this forum more and more with very similar, expensive problems to the P38s.....its the price one pays for having an aging, complex luxury car.

Personally, I'd try the £150 fix for a new RF receiver first.....however, if the 2.5 diesel (not my favourite thats for sure) is getting you down, then ditch it and buy another....you could always come and buy my 1999 Vogue 4.6, which is looking for a good home, for a good bit cheaper than the L322 you are looking at and at least I changed the RF receiver with own fair hand and it runs like a dream :)
 
I bought the L322, and she starts, every time.

The P38 was fine when it was outside any house but mine, I always had to remove RF cable, and replace it when going anywhere, if I didnt all hell broke loose with Engine Disabled etc.,

Yet when it was at the land Rover specialists, it started no problem, every time, so I have to assume the problem was related to some signal in my area that is particularly strong.

The lads at the Land Rover place, assured me my RF box was the latest one, and as they didnt experience the problem there and the battery remained fully charged, I didnt see the point of buying a new one, and then it still happening.

This one I can leave for as long as I like, and I know it will start first time, every time, and thats me happy.

It was always the plan to start with the P38 and then part ex it for a newer one when I could afford it, I just had to bring that day closer, as £1,000 spent on the old girl, had not solved anything.

Maybe the problem could have been solved with time and injecting more cash into it, but, being disabled, and my Motability car having to go back on the 12th September, pushed my hand a fair bit. I tried for 3 months to get this problem resolved, and got nowhere, so maybe, I chose the cheaper option after all. Only time will tell.
 
I keep reading these threads and had the same problem I found the best solution was to fit a simple flick switch in the middle of the blue wire (placed in side of parcel shelf) then when the car was at home( where the RF prob occured) I just switched it off and locked up with the Key.. no probs then open with key next time and switch on and away ye go!!
 
I did consider doing that, but as Im not as able as I once was, I decided against it.

Plus every darn time, the RF was out, I had to re-set everything, windows, and so on. Plus, remember in my case, I had three batteries in three months.

Lets face it, being an older lady and not in the best of health, I should not have bought a vehicle that needed so much TLC in the first place. I should have stuck with my Motability car.

So lesson learnt, unless you can do some of the minor work yourself, dont get a P38.

I feel very lucky now, I have a car that is comfortable for me to drive, so much so, I feel relaxed when driving, which hasnt happened to me in a long long time.

I have a good team who know me now at my Land Rover Specialists, and they have been brilliant. They even checked this new one over and forced the garage to do work they had no intentions of doing.

And......

I have all of you, who supported me and educated me through my problems, plus, you made me laugh, and thats better than any medicine out there. You are one very special group of people.

Its swings and roundabouts isnt it.. pay out on the old one, or make a payment on the new one..

I had a Motability car which cost me £200 a month. So the deal was to give that up, and get a P38 and as long as it didnt cost me too much more than that in repairs, upkeep etc., the result was.........happiness.

However it didnt work out that way.. yes it cost me £200 plus, but nothing was being resolved.

The good point was that the P38 was paid for.

The new one, costs me the £200 a month in HP. Not a situation I wanted to be in, but in reality where is the difference in paying £200 to Motability or to a Finance company.

It wont be totally mine for 3 years, and yes, I have Insurance and maintenance costs on top of that.

But, so far, I have had the one thing my beautiful P38 didnt give me, reliability.

This morning I have sat looking out the window, watching the cars go by, and have seen quite a few P38's drive by, each looking stunning, and I do pine a bit for mine, but there was no choice for me.

The Motability car has now gone back, and the Rangie is my only car now, and so far, its been a match made in heaven. I know it wont always be so, I know things will go wrong, and I know you guys and gals will be here for me when they do.

I cant begin to tell you how I am feeling right now, I look at her, drive her, and yet still cant believe she is mine.

I adored my P38, but, and yes this will sound daft, I knew when I bought her, that she wasnt 'the one' but she was the only one available here up north.

This one, shouted at me, and said Oi, Im what you are looking for !!!

I just couldnt resist her, and yet I was petrified, that when I got her home, I would have the same problem.

Thank God, I didnt...

And one of these days I will turn up for that coffee....

Not worried about that, it's Js turn anyway. Bloody long way for a coffee and burger though. As long as Claw can shake off the private detective that follows him around. Think he once worked for MI6 or was it MFI.:):):)
