that opens the car, but on trying to start it, I just hear a series of clicking sounds from the engine, and then the notice of Engine Disabled appears again.

I have also tried pressing the remote before starting as it says in another thread and nothing, same message appears.

should I put that blue wire back ?

I have put the wire back and the error messages have stopped, however the car wont start. Its as if the battery is drained once again, even though I left it running a full hour after the AA came, so I will ring them again, and update you..

You don't have to go to Land Rover to replace your battery, it will cost too much from them, its the same battery they use for trucks, so go to ATS the commercial ones, it will cost about £80 if that to replace

Sorry im not close to you, otherwise i would come over and help out

Hi Dopey, believe it or not, I have already done that a month ago, as this happened then too, and it cost me £149.50, so I know its not the battery, its something draining it and pretty quickly too..

Thanks for the offer I really do appreciate that you would have helped if you lived closer..

I ran the engine exactly 1 hour 20 mins after the AA guy left, and that should have been enough, so let the patronising little so and so start lecturing me and I will hit him, thats for sure...lol

OK..update...

I had a nice AA man this time...

He tested the battery and according to the reading the battery is faulty, so the car is now at Kwik Fit, where the battery was purchased, and they will fit a new battery tomorrow.

Thats two batteries in a row, which have been faulty, what are the odd on that?

Lets hope this sorts things.

Thanks to all of you, and I will try to keep you all updated.

Kwik Fit changed the battery, and on advice I received from an A1 member here, I took her straight around to Cheviot 4 x 4 who specialise is Land Rovers.

So she has been there since yesterday morning.

Tonight they phoned to say, they cannot find anything wrong, she is starting first time every time. They asked if I had any wireless doorbells around, so I said, yes, and confirmed that I realised that bells, and all kinds of wireless equipment runs on 433megawhatits.. and sounded as impressive as I could.

He said they could fit a battery disabling switch, which got a no from me, and I asked him about the rf receiver, which he wouldnt comment on, other than asking me how much I wanted to spend on the car, which suggested to me, the part was going to be expensive, which I know, and that it may not cure the problem.

So, we have decided that they keep the car a day or two longer, and look for the source of a couple of leaks whilst its there..

Then I shall bring her home, and wait and see if it happens again, if it does, well then I have little choice but to try it, or put her up for sale..:(

Again... will keep you all informed.

J & Wammers ..............Can you find a Diagram fer Petbe to look at ... I've bin thru RAVE twice & I can't find one that shows it clearly...

Cheers Fellas

Guys, I did it, I got the pliers and pulled the blue wire out, but, I couldnt get rid of the Engine Disabled warning, even by using the remote, it just wouldnt go, and I had the alarm going off continuously, so I put it back in place, and this was when I saw the battery was totally flat again, after being run for 1hr 20 mins after the AA started it.

Im happy to buy a new rf box, but I get the impression that the Landy specialist isnt too keen on this idea.

But I do appreciate all you guys have and are doing ...

PetBe, I had exactly the same issues when I bought mine in October last year....as you will see from my Posts on this forum.......When I get home I will take a photo of where and what you need to do for the RF receiver and post it on here........just incase you are doing something wrong...it is really only a 2 minute job.......

Hope things improve after that.

Chris

A huge thanks from one Chris to another....lol

I had to use pliers as the darn thing wouldnt move, and then all hell broke out, alarms went off, engine disabled warnings, and despite using the remote I couldnt get things to work, so I put the cable back in.

Blue wire is the one you want to remove i think.

Petbe, from one female Rangie owner to another......I had exactly the same battery drain problem when I got my Rangie years ago, it costs all of about £150 for a new RF receiver, and the problem magically vanishes! If you have absolutely no idea about cars, Jason is an excellent mobile mechanic as mentioned earlier - 07903077948- and is MUCH cheaper than a dealer. If you lived closer, I would help out with the RF receiver, can't remember the part number you need now - its really easy to change, YF something or other - make sure you buy the part brand new from a main dealer as lots of old receivers do the ebay rounds packed in new boxes.......
Don't give up on your Rangie.....pity I didn't know you were looking for one as I've got a really nice one which I'll have to sell soon!! I've had one for 6 years and learned sooooo much from this forum, saved loads in the process!!!!

Have posted the pics on my profile as an album titled RF receiver, explanation given , by clicking on each picture...hope it helps someone.....

Thanks...Hope it is of some help to those with the RF issues....
Will be changing discs and pads soon, so will do the same for that if it is of any help.....

Rangiegal.. glad to meet another female around here.. and thank you for the encouragement, without you all I think I would have given in and just handed her back to the dealer to sell on my behalf, which would have not been a good idea.

Hoarec thank you so much for the pics, yes that was most certainly the cable I pulled out.. you are a star !!

Wammers thanks, yes that was the one I removed..

Here is todays news...

the specialists took out the rf box, but there is no number on it, so they phoned Land Rover, who assured them that the fault re rf was fixed prior to my model, which is 2000, yeah, I dont get that bit either...lol, but the annoying factor was there is no part number on it..

Now I looked up the part number on this forum, so I do have it, just in case this problem rears its head again.

However, he did take the rf cable out, and this time it caused no disturbance with the dash, so I asked him to leave it at that.

Other problems found....

All air bags are perished, so he recommends replacing them with springs if I dont intend to offroad, or want to raise or lower.

Three oil leaks found, one being black oil from a seal up front. second being clear oil from the transfer box, and lastly a missing seal causing oil to be thrown against rear wheel.

We are meeting up on Monday to discuss costs and what needs to be done ...
