A couple of months ago, I announced on these forums that I had bought myself a 2000 Rangie.

Several of you warned me that wireless doorbells etc could effect the battery, and I listened, honest I did.:doh:

A few weeks later, it wouldnt start, so I phoned the AA and told the guy, what you had all told me, which of course, he poo pood, and said he had never heard of it. He then tested the battery and gave me the figure of 2 amps, and told me it was defunct..:doh:

So off I went and paid £149 for a new battery..

Guess what? its happened again.

I dont drive it every day, and because of that, its draining fairly quickly.

This time I cant even use the fob to open the door..

I need to have the auto door opening, as I am disabled, and living where I do, I would be afraid to leave it overnight without the immobiliser in place.

I need your help guys..

I have heard of a resister thingy, that can be fitted that stops this, but I cant do that myself, and my local 4 x 4 guy says I have to get someone mobile to fit it for me.

I would appreciate any advice you can give me. The garage I bought it from are willing to take it and sell it for me, but I dont really want to do that, as the Rangie is the car of my dreams, the only replacement I would want would be another Rangie..
 
i think the fix is to remove the alarm aerial from inside the car. Somene can fit a jump lead on to the starter motor terminal to supply power to open doors and bonnet.
Its been quoted many times before.
 
thanks guys... tell me which one to remove, and I dont mind you taking the mick.. I deserve it for not insisting the AA guy checked this forum!

Hi, longer and more expensive, but better fix, is to replace it with the most modern upgraded antenna as disabling the aerial means the key has to be close to the rear driver's side quarter window to activate the remote function, or at least a few feet.

Cost is a few hundred quid for part, but sorts the problem forever and maintains the extra distance which the remote will work through.
 
if you need someone to fit it why not give jason a call he came out to mine and replaced 3 blend motors yesturday in 2 hours for 340 was a good job from a friendly guy and i think he travel the country good luck
 
I would be more than happy to pay Jason, if you could point me in his direction.

As I explained previously in my earlier posts, I had a car on Disability Lease, and yes it was good, but it wasnt mine, and never would be. I will be 60 years old next month, and although a car enthusiast, I'm not the kind of woman who can put cars right.

I realised that a Rangie would need constant work, and as I have a 4 x 4 garage around the corner, I was sure things would be ok. But he doesnt do electrics, so this has all had me so depressed, I was about to part exchange the car for a car, that I dont want or love, which would end up costing me £300 a month on finance, and at my age, I really cant afford it.

I indulged myself with the Rangie, it was a dream, and as Im coming up to that magic 60th, I felt this car was my birthday present to me.

Being a woman, I know I paid way over the top for it, but I wanted it, and now, Im lost, not knowing what the hell to do.

I will try and get the battery off today, and get that on charge, and hopefully, I can get this sorted. I like the idea of the upgraded antenna.

Thanks again, guys, sorry, I didnt come back sooner and report the problem, I just hoped it would go away.. by being able to get a garage to take it in part ex. But I am trying to be realistic now, and face the problem and sort it.
 
i had the same problem on mine.it was fine when parked at my partners house, but was flat within 3 days when parked at mine. The reciever was about £150 i think and was fitted in about 20 mins. its been fine ever since..:behindsofa:
 
Hi, as quick thought, since you say you`ve not had the rangie very long and have problems with the battery do you have the EAK code? this may be required if you`re locked out with a flat battery.
Also do you leave the car for long periods without driving it? If so it may be worth while getting one of those solar-panel battery chargers? I`m not saying they`ll cover up for faults in the system, but should keep battery topped-up and hopefully extent it`s life.
 
Petbe, if you have occasion to speak to that AA man again tell him ... the frequency of the key/remote on a Rangie is 433 Mgz .......& so are DOOR BELLS, Wireless Internet Routers & Shed loads of other "Boring Bits" that the general public use.

As J says just pop off the SINGLE WIRE from the RF reciever (Located just behind the offside cover in the boot..... (I still don't "GET" why anyone would want to be over 250 Metres away from their car & WANT to Unlock it)....Standing next to the damned thing make a hell of a lot more sense to me...........

I have just had the AA guy here, (before I read your post) and he was having none of it, I even told him about the 433 megawhatsits, as I read it in an earlier post, but he was a jobsworth, and all he has done is start the car, which by the way only had half an amp in the battery after a couple of days of sitting.

So she is sitting out there now, engine running..

I now need a diagram from you, as to what to do and I will give it a go...

I love you guys, you are the BEST !!!!

Petbe ............Gimme 5 mins to fire up me old lappy with me rangie CD on ...BE RIGHT BACK...........
 
Ok Petbe..........Can't find a Diagram (Sure someone will post one in a bit) ...BUT.... pull down the right hand (Driving Side) cover in yer boot .... behind there you'll find a LITTLE BLACK BOX with 2 little plugs/wires going into it ....

Disconnect the plug WITH THE ONE WIRE going into it NOT the one with 2 wires going into it....the "Two wire" plug goes to your BeCM you don't EVER wanna touch that ......just unplug the plug with ONLY ONE WIRE IN IT that the aerial & any spurious wireless things you have around will NOT wake up the Rangie (& cause a flat battery!!!)
 
OK..I have managed to pull out the single Blue wire, but now the engine wont start, and a message comes up, engine disabled.
