A few of us are coming up from Essex to do the coast to coast, we will probably start at Whitby or at least on the east coast, anyone done this and know roughly distance covered on each day as we are looking for accommodation to book. For eg, If we left east coast at 10ish where would we expect to be by early evening. I know it's not an exact science and haven't finalised the route yet but ball park area would be handy.

We did it the other way, Cumbria to Yorkshire (going home!) .. ;)

But can send a route. We camped Twice, once at Kirkby Stephen and once at Thirsk ish ... However, I don't know the viability of the route totally now as it all changes, with regards to legality and TRO's. At the time we did it, it was OK. There's a right mix of every type of lane in UK .. grass, farm track, rocky mountain trail, to boggy marshland, to river crossings to high moorland, it's a great trip .. :)

Message me with an email and I'll send a route and the itinerary I drafted, it should help a little .. Actually just noticed upload a file button .. see if it works .. ;)

OK, it's sent the PDF but won't include the Memory Map track so send me a meassage and I'll email it.

Bear in mind, the pdf is what was planned, as is the route .. but both changed as circumstances dictated. We didn't stay at Robin Hoods Bay, indeed we went to Scarborough instead, cutting a few of the later lanes out due to breakdowns and time .. but they'll give you an idea. ;)

Thanks Paul
The itinerary is a big help, maybe we will do it west to east, been to Robin Hood bay a few times, nice part of the world.
My email is geoffphilpot@mac.com

Do you know what council we need to contact to check any closures/ TROs
Thanks for the help much appreciated.
Geoff

Viewed the videos via your website, looks like an excellent weekend. Thanks Paul for the route I will have to forward it to some one that has MM on Windows, my iPad won't open mmo files, think they need to be gpx.
Thanks geoff

No problem. West to East is probably slightly harder than East to West on that route due to a couple of steep uphills, we only did it that way 'cos it was on the way home basically and that's the way most do it.
Cumbria and Lake District National Park, West Yorkshire and Yorkshire Dales NP, North Yorkshire and North Yorks NP .. ;) I don't have any more info really 'cos this is a newer laptop with hardly any of my old stuff on it, sorry.

Sending you an email .. ;)

Hmmm .. dunno why that didn't post earlier ...

I'll email a GPX of it then .. ;)

What date are you planning to be in Whitby/Robin Hoods Bay? I may be able to help with accommodation.
