All,
Having just replaced the swivel ball, bearings and associated seals and gaskets I've (well my wife) have enjoyed 2 weeks of happy motoring, until yesterday when my wife phoned me to say that the Landy was making a loud squeaking noise, some vibration and loss of power!!!
So last night checked that it was'nt the belts slipping, all ok, and took it for a quick test drive, no squeaking?
Always difficult to hear any odd noise over the usual rattles, squeaks and bangs which are common. But with the window down (bloody cold last night) there was a loud squeak, loss of power and vibration. Especially with the power on.
No squeak with engine in neutral (and revved) and less when coasting in gear?
It's almost like tranmission wind up, everything getting tight etc etc but the centre diff isn't locked.
Seems like it's someting to do with the transmission, prop shaft, worn universal joints, could be the vibration and squeaking bit when under load, but where does the loss in power come from??
Trouble is I cannot really investigate without rollers or rolling road, or straping someone to the chasis to find out where the cause is. We've come such a long way me and the landy to give up now and go to a garage.
Help!
