Ok I'll start by saying that as a discovery owner I not only expect but have got used to the various rattles that manifest themselves at various times throughout its life. However the latest one has just about driven me to distraction in my attempt to find and resolve it.
Quite simple there is a rattle from underneath and up near the front end whenever it is moving at relatively slow speed. Anything between 5 and 30 mph, regardless of whether its in gear or even has the engine running. It sounds like something quite 'tinny' jumping around underneath. However the moment I touch the brakes it stops, release them and off it goes again. Upon checking the front brake pads they appeared quite loose in the caliper and when flicking them around they sounded as though they would make just such a noise. However having just replaced the fitting kit so that they now fit reasonably tightly I was pretty confident that that would be the problem solved. Off for a test drive feeling quite pleased with myself and away it goes again, absolutely no difference whatsoever! Ive also recently checked and changed the u/j's and am now at a loss as to where to try next. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Who knows, if we do get some warm weather I just might like to be able to drive with the windows open!
