Hi Everyone

I picked-up my P38 yesterday from the garage and they came with a "bad" news. When they drove test the car they had a Gearbox warning on the dash (once), they connected a T4 Test book (Hawk Eye) and saw that there was indeed a fault. We tested this together, cleared the fault changed gear with the selector and the fault was back every times. I do not remember the message fault on the Test Book but it was saying something about "timing", however they are certain that it is the XYZ Switch Gear Selector because of this message.

Unfortunately for me they did not have any parts (STC2944) available and the few 2nd ones they had came from cars with more mileage than mine. And the only one they source was rather expensive.

So I am back home without having this sorted. So now my question are
1. What symptoms should I experience?
2. Does a faulty STC2944 affect gear changes when driving?
3. When this stuff break what will happen?

Now, could it be something else? Any advise? I ordered this switch last night just in case (way cheaper than what they sourced me), still your opinion is always welcome.

It's basicly just the gear selector it tells the g/ box ecu what position it's in ie drive reverse N ect trouble you can get is it does not know what selection it's in or being so far out it thinks drive is still in Neutral. Once it had chosen if its bad vibration could make it think your changing the selector when driving when infact your not thus making gearbox do strange things.

If you got AA cover,i would leave it until it actualy fails could take ages as long as your box is playing game sometime its justs dirty contacts mine wouldn't go in 1 but after continual attempts it works fine now .

WOW that's been an epic race to find this little buddy! Still I succeed to place my order and will get the little STC2944 hopefully soon... But the first place I contacted Transmission Neutral Safety Switch - STC2944 Told me and I quote :

"That switch has jumped in price...as I am sure you are aware....List price is now in the neighborhood of $768.00 for a new one from the dealer. I do have a good used one we would sell for $275.00 plus the shipping....let me know if that is acceptable...otherwise I will refund the charges to your PayPal account"

Strangely we are back to their original full price, was the 58% discount (Still on their page) was some kind of poorly elaborate bet and switch attempt from their part? Luckily for me I paid with PayPal and have been refunded.

There is instructions on rovers net of how to clean and repair an xyz switch , the older ones had a breather hole and tended to get crap and wet inside which buggers the contacts , have a look may save you a few $
