Hi can anybody help came out to 2001 p38 put key in all lights on but would not turn over, called out RAC he said it had lost power to starter motor run wire from battery and it started said the problem was xy switch on box but have also been told it could be becm sync anybody had same problem because at £250 plus for xy switch do not want to buy till 100%. i am in bury lancs area.:
 
rac man talking out of his arse, if it was out of sync it would turn over but not start. when you turn the key do the lights go dim?
 
J the Range after reading threads you seem to be the man .
RAC man did not say BECM out of sync one of the members on here did RAC man said xy switch at fault. wot do you think.
 
could be a few things low amps in your batery main fuse in engine fuse box or relay in same fuse box. starter stuck. you need to go into it one thing at a time. if you can not do it yourself there is a garage not far from you who can help if you need his number give me a shout i get it for you..
 
hes thinking xyz switch is inhibiting starter relay,even though in park,i wolud check solenoid trigger wire back

Thanks j but like i said car starts so i do not think it is starter,or battery, checked all engine fuses ok, like RAC man said no power to starter so maybe relay,.but can you give me name and number of garage anyway please
 
it should be yellow any other yellow will do it. and the number is 01616372655 if you need any parts try joe at emmotts of clone. if you need his number just ask..
 
I'm have an idea, without looking at RAVE, that the xy switch does not inhibit the starter, I think there is a micro switch in there for P and N. Have you tried in both P & N positions?

Well guys auto elec came out today turns out broken wire to relay only problem now the EAS needs resetting as anybody in the manchester area with a reset tool will pay them only could do with car tonight have bought a reset tool of ebay .
