Hi, does anyone happen to know the value of the oem xenon lamps on an 04 l322 I purchased 8k as one of my original lamps was flickering so suspected the lamp and all seemed fine for a while but the problem reoccurred and I eventually found it to be the ballast at fault Given the cost of a replacement I don't want to destroy the new one by running wrong value lamps. Or are the ballasts capable of running the higher k ratings without a problem. thanks for any info.

Thats just the colour white balance (colour temperature) value isn't it??

As long as it is a DS2 bulb or whatever they're called it should be OK..... Should be in the owners manual.

Hi, oem should be 4500k, 8k will probably be very blue and maybe no advantage in light . I've bought some 6k for mine but haven't fitted yet. Any D2S bulb will be ok, depends what colour, the higher the k the more blue the light. I've been told 6k about the whitest, others may disagree or have experience.

Thanks for replies ,have rechecked and it was 6k I purchased. Just couldn,t believe the cost of a replacement ballast.

Yes ballasts are quite dear. Although I haven't had to purchase one yet. (Fingers crossed). My sons audi quattro had one go and that was over £100.
anyway mine was flickering a while back, I think it was on the full fat site someone had the same and he cleaned the connections on the bulb area, tried it on mine and for now has cured the problem, that's with the electric cleaning stuff in a spray can. Might be worth a try.

Human eyes are generally best at 5000K to 6000K based on sunlight & evolution . . .. but apparently we concentrate better as light gets cooler, hence the shift towards blueish lights. This is why computer monitors are biased towards 9000K. In the good old analog days we used to set TV Monitors to 6500K for correct skin tones !!

But to answer the real question . . . if the bulbs work and you can see the road well, then they are correct !!!
