My friend has an x police td5 which is coming into my garage this week for me to replace the rear airbags with springs as it keeps dropping and he's sick of it but iam wondering if as it was a police one do yous think it will have been chipped? How can I tell? and are the ecu's interchangeable? Just once I've fixed it, serviced it and had it valeted he's selling it so was thinking if it's chipped could I swap the ecu into mine? Theyre both 2000 models. Cheers.:)

There is no way it will have been chipped or re-mapped!!! I'm an ex-cop and none of our cars were chipped, not even the traffic division cars or unmarked cars! A Td5 Disco would have been a regular patrol 4x4 for a rural police office or a specialist unit vehicle such as Dog unit, firearms or search teams so wouldn't have needed mega impressive performance!

But I'd advise your mate to sell it, as cops treat police cars like ****!!! mechanically it will be pretty good with regualr servicing etc but the interior will be ****ed!

as he said^^^^^^^^
You tend to find that chipping/tuning police cars is a myth these days.
It will have been treated as a tool rather than a car, I'd leave well alone!

Mine an ex lancashire police disco 2 td5 and can confirm what the others said, it hasnt been chipped and was used as a tool rather than a pursuit vehicle!!

"if it aint broke, take it apart and fix it anyway!"

just to kill another myth!!! Even the pursuit vehicles are not chipped!! Most police forces now use big engined turbo diesels for their traffic cars such as BMW 3 litres etc = very fast without needing tuned/chipped and driver behind the wheel alos makes a big difference :)
