while we are on with this subject... what part no alt do I need to fit my pressbrake 300 2nd bracket?

There is also the question of what type of battery to use for the 2nd.

For winching and other similar short term heavy loads, probably a car battery with a high cranking output.

For an inverter, lights, coolbox, or other loads that will be on for some time, probvably often with the engine off, you need a deep discharge type that will give longer time power and not be so upset if it goes flat!

Got another battery which is the same as my current one today!!

Gonna buy the caravan one as its the same as the one i posted and with postage works out 11 quid cheaper so hey ho!!

Now to fit some kind of bypass switch, so you could use the 2nd bat if the 1st one went faulty, would you just link the two positives together via an isolator?

Just brought the durite one from ebay for £43...

Was going to go for the caravan one but i noticed it said cuts in at 13.7volts and out at 12.8 where the durite cuts in at 13.3 and out at 12.8, so just incase my alt doesnt play nicely it should still go that little bit more..

This is my setup if anyone is interested or comes across this thread on search

Holy crap i like that! Can i ask what cable you used when you wired up your spots? I wired up my Winch to a solenoid switch in my cab but would like to wire in my 2 spot lights above my winch and an electric fan.

2-3mm should be fine.

All depends on your spots obviously. I'm running led so they draw less current.

Take the wattage of the lights on the circuit. Say 100w. Divide that by 12. That's your voltage and dividing it by voltage gives you amps. Amps=watts/voltage. Making it 12 not 12.5 builds in a bit of extra.

Then goto someone like altec automotive and peruse their wire. 3mm is good for approx 35amps. That's north of 400 watts.

I brought a little bit of 3 pair stuff today which is 0.75 each, if they were crimped together would that add up to 2.25?

ok so the second battery shows weak on my charger so i guess it wont hold charge but would it be ok to use as a 2nd battery which the winch could connect to or would it drain my main battery until the relay cut off?

No point in hooking your winch up to a crap battery IMO. Ideally your two batteries should be the same, and about the same age and condition.

it would but its not perfect, you could end up with 2 of the 3 cut and the single overloaded, when I needed 40amp supply to my towbar socket but only 20amp wire we fed 2x20amp separately fused feeds, if one gets cut it will overload the other and blow the fuse
