So can someone explain this to me??

It's plain ass nasty...

Surely there was a practical idea behind this disco?

(Upon looking, there's even a montage of nasty 6x4 landys)

I think the idea is that with twin rear axles you increase the carrying capability a lot !

Mahoosive load carrying space - or even just for camping out of the back of. Nice job. Even better if it was truly 6 wheel drive (back axle has power to it and a locker).

I'd love to see the arrangement underneath for getting power to the 2nd rear axle.

a pass through diff with a short drive shaft something like this
