hello all,

My project 110/defender has (according to the previous owner) had a new front propshaft fitted, but I noticed the splines are showing (about an inch beyond the rubber dust cover, with the landy sitting normally on the ground). Does this mean it's too short? or are they normally showing like (doesn't seem right to me)?

I can't see how to upload pictures on this forum so I'll have to rely on the description.

Aren't the 300tdi ones slightly longer? I was given one by accident and no amount of wiggling or maneuvering would get it to fit. Looked up the part number and it was for a later model, 300tdi. 200tdi one fitted fine.

slightly shorter as t/box sits further forward if we are talking about front ,reverse is true for the rear

Just for your info, I'm no expert but when I fitted a Sailsbury front axle to my 200tdi it came with a front prop shaft which was too short. I believe the prop shaft was off a V8.
It was about a half inch too short. I contacted the axle supplier who promptly sent me another prop shaft which did fit.

Rats! another unanticipated expense!

If I order a new one, is it suffice to say 110 defender 200TDi? I would assume that is what the previous owner did when ordering this one.

Or do I have to ID the transmission/ axles, etc to get the right one? It's a 5spd manual - by comparing the linkages of the low/high/difflock selector to the manual, I've tentatively ID'd it as an early LT230T. I think it's a fairly recent replacement transmission, the previous owner did say it was fairly new and it's still clean looking cf the rest of the landy.

I normally get parts via post so don't want to order the wrong one.

Thx for the help.

should be enough to say that ,there are 2 types really on std truck 300 tdi and v8 ,and all other 4 cylinder engines ,frc8390 is std 200 tdi prop
