Looking for a Defender 100 300tdi at the moment, Going to have a look at one to day which is suppose to have had a new chassis!!! But its from TD5!!!! Is this a common mod and if so why??? Apparently fitted by Pennine Autos couple of years ago.
It does seem a bit old that you would fit the later chassis when you could get a glav one which is for your Landy, But having said all that I do love the idea of a new chassis that could be filled with wax oil etc. what do you think?
Thank you in advance

Was it a new chassis or a used td5 one ? not that uncommon i would of thought and i believe you can buy new quarter chassis (rear) and they only come in td5 form (ie hole cut in rear crossmember for 7 pin plug)

If theres proof it was done by a reputable garage i wouldnt worry to much about where the chassis came from but if it wasnt new its well worth getting underneath to have a poke !

Thanks for your reply, Yes I will get under and have a good poke around I know where the rot spots are rear crossmenber, swan neck, outriggers and behind the front bumper. I do.'t know much about Pennine Autos google them and somebody had a grievance with them about something but other than that I don't know anything about them.
I take it all the mounting hole are in the same place etc?

Engine mounts would be different but they must of welded new ones in ,if the chassis is solid and they can prove its not from a ringer i wouldnt walk away from it as not many 300 tdi fenders in this part of the world will have a completly original chassis now

Nice if they had fitted a new galv chassis but then they would want more money for it !!

Why wouldn't they fit a galvy chassis? It sounds suss to me, even if it is a garage that done the work , a garage will do what ever a customer pays them to do.
I reckon that's a second hand chassis on that , I'd walk away.
A new td5 bare steel chassis costs close to the same as a galvy one, it doesn't make any sense.

I you dont have £1500 for a new galv chassis and a used one come up which is better than the original for £200 then although not ideal im sure many would fit it if they werent keeping the car long term

its all gonna come down to chassis numbers... if it doens't have one or it looks tampered walk away

A couple of years ago could mean anything meaning it could have been done a long time ago aswell, marsland have done a td5 chassis that are fitted with either tdi mounts ( your choice when ordering ) for years just saves them making different chassis for different models and all have a td5 rear x member's aswell which is what i want to get for mine so as long as the chassis / vin no's telly up everything should be ok :)

My marsland v8 galv chassis came with td5-style rear crossmember - they make them all like that.
