I like the ideas posted so far. A couple of other ideas I had were a section on the history of the ninety, one ten and defender (how it differed from the series 3 and how it's changed over 32 years) and a section with a list that refers new owners to places such as this forum, LR magazines and recommended products to use etc.

Do you think these would be useful to have?

I had to Google that! (I'm middle aged with no kids, and I don't think we have them up here anyway!)

What's in the manual would depend on whether it's intended as a version of the manufacturers manual or as a separate, independent publication. The manufacturer doesn't really cater for the used buyer so focuses on driving tips and where controls are, and they certainly won't include common faults! If you can give us a bit more detail we might be able to help better.

PS, I'd love to see the result!

It will be an independent publication. It's for people who are buying their first Land Rover and need to know what to look for when buying one and how to do basic DIY maintenance etc. I have to complete it by January so I won't be able to go into too much detail like a workshop manual but hopefully I will be able to give a fairly comprehensive guide on buying, maintaining, driving one etc. I'm also looking to use my ninety for demonstrative purposes!

Well having just bought one within 2 days i have a little advice for complete beginners lol

Google the ebay id/company name nickname etc of the seller before looking at it if they are dodgy it will bring you to this site (like me some found it after the fact)

Don't go if you can't get underneath to poke through where the rust has been undersealed over so it all looks fine untill the day after when you can poke big holes in it.

Refuse to sign anything that looks like a disclaimer (even if the author doesn't realise his document is not legal.)

check the diff lock works yourself don't ask to see and be blagged when the bloke just moves his hand across the top pretended to have shoved it.

If any windows dont work ask to check the fuses there and then it takes 2 minutes once you know where they are and it's not the fuses on mine more likely the ecu needs soldering

If the seller refuses any checks or evades the question walk away
