been searching for some 17" AT tyres all morning online and have found some 235/65/17 colway all terains for 41 quid each. the thing is i have always been a bit cautious about retreads.i would not fit them to a sports but as a freelander don't go that fast it does not concern me as much, plus i've heard that colways are a good tyre, the AT having the same tread pattern as the BFG AT tyre.
what do you lot think?

I have limited 'Off Road' experience as I have only had my FL 6 months.
But I have used Colway tyres for a number of years on the rally car. The forest tyres are excellent and have never let us down.
Colways Tyres are very popular in the club both Tarmac and Forest.

cheers, they do look very tempting at only 41 squid each compared to 108 squid for the pirrelli ones.

i think you'll find there is a difference between retread and remould....retreads have all but bin outlawed cause all they was, was an old tyre wiff a new tread glued on to it.
remoulds are a new tyre built to high (normally) standards on an old carcass

yer i think you are right there, it says retreads in the ad but in other ads for the same make of tyre it says remoulds.

The Colways are remoulds.
We use retreads here at work on aircraft.....Great!

Most commercial vehicles use retreads, we've got em on the Merc Fire engine at the mo....

there is a misconception about remoulded tyres these days, as slob says, re treads for cars were outlawed years ago. remoulds however are as good as cheap new tyres if not better. remould manufacturers have a very high standars for used casings that are to be remoulded, they only use casings from front line manufacturers like goodyear, pirelli,michelin, etc. these casings haver to be in tip top condition. if you look on a remould it also carries the same speed rating as a new tyre, therefore the tyre must be able to perform at the designed speed. so, if you think about the state of the country we live in being a blame culture with no win no fee solicitors everywhere(alright retsy ) the manufacturers have to have faith in their products. the days of remoulds falling apart are long gone.

yes you are right there, when i mentioned remoulds to my mates they all started sucking through their teeth!. but personally i have not got a problem with them. if it means i can get 17" AT tyres on the freeloader for 40 quid each i'll be a happy man. (beats paying 90 quid plus for a tyre with a famous brand name on it).
