i left the original fuel filter and housing from the td in when i put the disco 300 tdi in.

would the smaller volume of the td filter cause a problem with the 300 tdi?

Assuming both engines had roughly the same mpg should give an equal flow rate though either filter so shouldn't be a prob

The Lucas filter head is designed to purge air from the fuel BEFORE going to the injection pump, the Bosch head one doesn't have this as the Bosch pump deals with air itself. So you can't put the Bosch head onto the lucas pump or you will run into trouble the first time the pickup draws air.

So I wouldn't think the filter head would cause any issues this way round however I have known these heads to be plumbed incorrectly and for the diesel flow to go completly to pot, so it may be worth checking it all out as one of the inputs should only be used for returned CLEAN fuel, otherwise it is possible to send unfiltered diesel to the injection pump.
