Hi All

About time I put something different on the Forum...

I've been looking at Disco's on the web and have come across a 200TDI for 695, she's a L Reg and doesn't look to bad from the outside for dents/scratches etc

Apart from the paint being slightly dull and getting old looks alright.

Question is:

1: How good are the 200TDi engines "I forgot to ask the mileage"
2: Any special points I should look for on the body- rust wise

I really really really want a disco but monies short and if she passes an MOT- thats all I want for now as I can save for bits and pieces.

Or should I stay away

ta Stu

My L reg 200 TDi has done 172,000 miles and still pulls like a train, plus they have fewer electrickry bits and bobs to break leaving you stranded!

200TDi enjins are good for 250K+

bodyrot
inner wings
footwell
sills
rear floor
headlight boxes
body mounts

I reckon £400-£600

shud give yu a start

Thanks for the replies.

Looks like the engine should be ok if it's under 200K then as long as she has been looked after......."i Hope"

Tax & MOT run out end Feb, if owt wrong still got my bike to take me to work.:D :D :D

Going to have to get down and dirty and see how bad the body is underneath, mates got a welder and we've both get big hammers.

Thats all you need for Rovers!!

That's a bit pricey for an old disco with little or no MOT. Chances are it'll need significant work, probably welding, to get another one. Have a look at the inner wings, sills, boot floor and all the parts where the body mounts to the chassis. not to mention inside the door openings especially the rear doors and tailgate. 200tdi is a great engine so long as it's been looked after.

It's only 35 mile away so I'll have to go have a look! It was taken as part exchange and they said they could MOT it if I left a depoist, abit reluctant to do that as before I have seen it yet.

I paid £485 for mine - needed some welding on the boot floor (no tax, no MOT), rear arches and front panel-body mount. Everything pretty much works, It's a 93' on the L. Done 178k. Looks like it'd had a rebuild at some point. Runs really nice, pulls well. Doesn't smoke or overheat. Stiff 'n' slightly crunchy change in the box for 1st and 2nd.
More welding than I was expecting though so make sure you have a good poke around underneath - don't be shy! Even if you pull the carpet and boot liner up when you look at it, it's worth doing as mine was waxoyled to beggary and looked pretty mint from underneath! Which it wasn't.... Looking back on it, might have paid over the odds considering but I'm well happy now it's on the road.

glad you got it sorted, i'm going to be all over it. like a kid in a new play ground, what does this do, where does that go, what if i press this???

can't wait. carpets are coming up to have a look, and under the doors to.

I've got 2 one weeks of leave booked so guess what i'm going to be doing.

All the fluids, filters, bulbs changed
going to change the oil again to make sure shes cleaner.
pressure wash the underside and treat rust area's
undo all the leckie connectors and seal with self amalgamating tape and pressure wash that too.

So much to do, just want it nowwwwwww

Ah good news, just spoke to the garage again today.

AND it needs and new clutch and the mot has run out they are going to do both at no extra charge!!!!

What a result

Well I phoned the dealer today as I noticed that the price had changed online..... Umm I wondered:confused2:

So knowing that they said they were going to put and new clutch and mot on her over the weekend, thought that she had failed!!!

They said that she had indeed failed as the clutch was slipping and said I could have her for £350.

So I could get her for 350 buy a clutch and do it myself???? and then put in for an mot and tax.
But I would need to borrow a trailer, and not sure how easy it is to change the clutch.

I have changed my cam belt on my Vectra, and boy was I scared to start it as both cams moved..   but it worked out ok.:clap2: :tea: :clap2:

Make sure you see the MOT failure sheet before parting with cash.

True..

£350 is fairly cheap for a 200tdi but it's the getting her home and fixing it.
Like getting my dirty but not sure if i should just find one thats got a bit of both tax and mot

if the engine/box is ok then its worth 350. the body can be repaired with a bit of time and patience. but make sure you know what it has failed on cos it could lead to more time and patience than you have !!!

£350! stop dilly dallying and buy the flaming thing before someone else does!
Worst case scenario: you decide you've taken on too much and sell it, for £350

Cheers all, But Ryan I have thought long and hard about it. Don't know the milage.
I'm getting it as another vehicle and can't afford not to have 2 cars. for me and her to get to work..
Other car Polo is just about to die...

So at the mo 350 is a lot for me if she doesn't work
